The party should adopt more comprehensive criteria for assessing the performance of its officials other than judging them from GDP numbers, Xi, also general secretary of the CPC told a meeting on the eve of the 92nd founding anniversary of the party which has ruled the country since 1949.
The party should consider a local official’s work in various aspects including people’s livelihood, the development of local society and the quality of environment, Xi said.

“We should never judge a cadre simply by the GDP,” he said expressing annoyance over excessive focus on economic growth numbers by local and provincial officials to highlight the development in their regions.

“The party’s cadres should be firm followers of Communist ideals, true believers of Marxism and devoted fighters for the socialism with Chinese characteristics,” he said.

A party official’s integrity will not grow with the years of service and promotion of his post but with persistent efforts to discipline himself and study Marxist classics and theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics, Xi said.

Is China gonna return to its aggressive non revisionist policies that Mao upheld as "Marxism"? Doubt it. Most likely just talking points from Xi.

no. China wants to be the premier global superpower, not an isolated regional ideologue. it will take parts of every successful system and craft a custom solution in order to achieve this goal.

Yeah, every solution... China survives on a lack of human, civil, labor and environmental rights. Hardly premier.

unfortunately, being the premier global superpower doesn't require an excellent human rights record / environmental responsibility.

It requires having those things. No one wants to move to China. How can it be premier when no one outside of it wants to live there.

China cherrypicks the potentially successful aspects of capitalism and a command economy at the same time. also, it is loaning the current premier superpower the money it needs to hang itself. as a side benefit, we are spending a portion of that money on global interventionism, which also benefits China.

China exploits its people through a lack of human, civil, labor and environmental rights. That's all it does, that's all it needs. Spare me the China glorification and look at reality. Do they want foreign contacts? Sure, but they can only get them in the developing world because of disgusting practices.

China glorification? what are you talking about? i'm talking about China's goal and its strategy to achieve it. my argument is that our fiscal and foreign policy plays directly into China's aspirations.

They pick and choose the best!

No, they don't. They lack rights, people are property and if someone says anything the government doesn't like they disappear. It's not some utopia of 'the best of all choices'. That kind of garbage talk regarding a ****hole of a country is enough to make me barf.

i didn't advocate any of the points that you are railing against. perhaps my tone was unclear. it was meant to convey lament that we are voluntarily playing into China's aspirations via our unwillingness to embrace different fiscal and foreign policies.

China won't be going back to a Maoist system. The reference to "devoted fighters for the socialism with Chinese characteristics" means that Xi wants China's citizens to fight for a market-based economy/Communist political power arrangement. He wants the CCP to maintain its veritable monopoly on political power within the context of a market economy.

rereading this post, i came across more harshly and snarky than i intended. my intention was to clarify my position.

Yes, because China govt couldn't guard its citizen's privacy from US's surveillance. That's their poor human rights record.
