Sooo how is this dangerous again? Wearing a bunch of clothing is dangerous? Or how is this gonna have a negative effect on our country if we allow them and continue to allow them wear this?
But how an I going to recognize you if you rob me? I couldn't! There's just no way people can go around completely anonymously in a civilized society.
Exactly my feelings...
No different from banning a kippah/yarmulke or crucifix IMO..
Not anywhere and not in France. The cherished phrase "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" must now be changed to "égalité et fraternité" as liberty has just been removed in the foolish idea that this law would protect any of the 2000 burka wearers that may be being beaten at home in France right now.
How would that be dangerous if every single person in the US was to wear a burqa in public settings? Lol you Americans have some of the most intrusive laws but the fundamental right to see a person face is too much? You are funny, the majority is in favor of the law here by a very big margin, we chose to live in a secular society, have fun with the religious nuts of all sides.
NOt a full out ban per se', but I would and do support laws that require that faces be shown on official government ID that use them, and that at least the face not be covered in certain types of government functions such as court, attending or involved. I cannot think of one religious group that doesn't have one aspect or another of their religion denied to them, at least in certain situations. Therefore, it is not an undue burden to require faces be shown in certain situations.

No prohibiting the free exercise of religion, right? Did I fall asleep and we cut out part of the first amendment?
SCOTUS has ruled on this several times. You can't unduly restrict religious freedom. You can require things to be done that are in the public interest. This is actually a very interesting area of the law.
Sweetpea I have something of a history on DP - you should perhaps look back at the hysterics any mention of France has provoked on these boards over the years.
