If your mom lived alone in a bad neighborhood would you buy her a gun?

If your mom lived alone in an area where home invasions and burglaries happen often, would you buy her a firearm?

What if someone had previously tried to break in, would you buy her a gun then?

I would buy my mom a $200K Samsung Sentry Robot, because she would be too scared to pull the trigger.

No, I'd move her out of that neighbourhood.

I second that, and add on, if it were not possible, I'd move in with her, if still not possible, I'd hire a security personnel for her.

Yes in a New York Heartbeat and I would teach her how to use it.......

some people don't have your money and can't afford to move........

I would try to move her out of the neighborhood.

Unfortunately, socialist policy dictates that my spare money goes to the government and they get to decide what to do with it. They just don't seem to care about my mom as much as I do, they have more important plans with my property then helping my mom.

I would ask her to live with me of course, but she is far too proud to accept.

How much does your life cost? Is it not worth moving to a safer region?
How much is your mother's life worth to you? Would not moving in with her to protect her be worth any costs?

If she wanted one, definitely. As long as I was certain she wanted it for protection and not 'cause she was depressed or acting erratically.

Good point. I would try to move her to a good neighborhood if I was able or bring her home with me. But if she insisted on staying and wanted the gun I'd buy her the gun and training on using it. There's little I wouldn't do for my mom.

...If my mom needed a gun, she could buy it herself. Why would she need me to do it for her?

Mom's already got a gun. And training.

I knock before entering.

Keeping the freeloading criminal alive so he can terrorize your mom is more important. Plus, now that she is dependent on the gov instead of you, and feels unsafe in her own home, she is more likely to support police force centralization schemes as well as dependency based redistributions schemes.

To answer the question, YES

NO-my mother is too elderly and frail to properly use a gun. It would do her no good. I would move her into my home which has plenty of room. Fortunately, she lives in a good area. when my father was alive and younger he kept a 38 revolver and later one of his bird guns loaded. When he got older I bought him a benelli 12 g combat shotgun because it was easier for him-the former (1944) national HS skeet champion) to use. I have that gun now-it wouldn't help my mom. My brother lives less than 4 minutes away and he has a browning hi-power and a 12 G Mossberg I gave him

Heck yes! Guns are cool to have, even if you don't live in what would be described as a "bad" neighborhood. Crime happens in "good" neighborhoods, too!

That would depend.
She doesn’t like hand guns but maybe something like an MP5..

Of course I would, she would not think twice about using it. She is a tough women. I would initially try and talk her out of living in the neighborhood, but she is too hard headed. However, she would never pick such a neighborhood, but we are talking hypothetically.

If I were cornered I would fight like a hell cat and I got it from her.

Time spent/abuse dealt formula example...

That would depend.

You know, I likee all them toys, but damn, I'm still partial to the good ol' M16. Prone, dropping the 400 yard target every time. I'd love to put a scope on one.

Speaking of Monkeys, that reminds me of a story.

Army days, Germany, couple a decades ago. One of my best friends was the armourer. You could volenteer to go to the range any time one platton was up for qualification, and I got the skinny on when to ask in advance. (Politics you morons, have you seen my award)? So, I'd go shoot my 40/40 and they'd march the unwashed masses onto the bus for some much needed "hurry up and wait". (Now, this is between us), turns out they had to allocate extra ammo for each range run, and never came close to using all. Guess what campers? Those rounds had to get used. So some buds and me would get 4-5 M16's and just rock and roll through mags until that barrel got hot and change weapons.

I just LOVE the smell of red hot barrels and cordite, smells like, young teacher havin fun. Booyea.

Know what the best thing was?

They got the privates to load the mags and I didn't have to clean the M16's not assigned to me. Yea, I been gettin away with sh**t all my life. That's gotta be annoying, which ammuses me.

And yea, cherokee, used to get to play with the HK's when I went on European marksmanship compatitions. They cheated. Give us USA guys a HK and tell us to zero it with just three rounds, once. Which is why I'd usually come in second or so. Still whupped the rest of the teams with their own weapons though.

Moral of the story?

USA got some well trained troops. Don't you ever doubt that. Ever.

Besides buying here gun I would also train her to use it effectively so that way she will not hesitate to use her weapon.

If there's one lesson my mother taught me growing up, it was "don't try to teach your grandma how to steal sheep."

She already has guns in her house, and she already knows how to use them. Only reason I've give my mother a gun is if hers were stolen or confiscated, or if she needed a drop gun for some reason. Other than that, she is a grown woman and has been responsible for her own armament since before I could shave.
