Two polls released this week gauging support for receiving the coronavirus vaccine are underscoring the lingering hesitancy many Republicans still harbor toward the shots, fueling concerns over an unstable recovery from the pandemic.

A poll from Quinnipiac University released Wednesday showed that 45 percent of Republicans “don’t plan” on getting a vaccine. Another survey from Monmouth University showed that 43 percent of Republicans “likely will never" get a shot.

Another poll released Thursday by YouGov showed a slightly smaller number — 36 percent — of Republicans saying they won’t get vaccinated, still representing over a third of self-identified members of the GOP.

I would not worry about Repub reluctance. We can let them all get sick & perhaps die with breathing tubes down their throats. It's a waste of resources to try to convince them since they already have their minds made up.

Eventually this virus may mutate to the point where the current vaccines can't protect people.
If Trump Republicans can keep the pandemic going "just enough" to prevent Biden from achieving his goal, they view that as a victory, even if the unthinkable happens:

2020 pandemic ALL OVER AGAIN, increased by several orders of magnitude.

Trump Republicans don't even care if we wind up with an end game scenario that almost resembles The Walking Dead.
It is still a victory to them, just as scorched earth and mountains of corpses looks like victory to ISIS.

Had enough yet?

Regardless, if Dems are highly vaccinated, and Repubs are vaccine averse, you'll hit a point where the virus will be picking-off the Repubs over time. Darwinism, in its truest form!

Yup. Survival of the fittest. And that does not apply to the Party of No.

I'll just point out that polls are often warped, as people consider in the moment their answer will be viewed by the general public.

So I don't believe these 36/45% figures, as they include folks who seized the opportunity to make a political statement, but who will take the vaccine when push comes to shove.

I also don't buy the high percentages of GOP folk who still support Trump for similar reasons. What are they going to tell some random poll taker after a contested election? Admit they were wrong to support Trump? What do they get out of that?

No...sorry.
I'm convinced that this virus will possibly mutate to the point where vaccinated people are at risk as much as, or almost as much as unvaccinated people.
Most people alive today won't recognize two Dodge cars parked next to each other if one is a 1930 Business Coupe and the other is a 2021 Dodge Charger Hellcat Red Eye.

Likewise, there is a good chance your immune system, even if vaccinated against SARS-Cov2, won't recognize a 2022 mutation.
This is the kind of scenario that used to inspire people like Michael Crichton.
And because this virus is "NOVEL", that is, previously unknown to the human race, it might as well be an extraterrestrial microorganism.

Maybe their minds will change when they see their friends & neighbors getting COVID.
