Mort Zuckerman: World Sees Obama as Incompetent and Amateur

Excerpt:
America right now appears to be unreliable to traditional friends, compliant to rivals, and weak to enemies. One renowned Asian leader stated recently at a private dinner in the United States, "We in Asia are convinced that Obama is not strong enough to confront his opponents, but we fear that he is not strong enough to support his friends."

Agree or disagree?

Wholeheartedly agree. The problem is getting the kool-aid drinking left to see the light.

Agree, I feel the same way.

It's clear Obama has continued the strong foreign policy positions such as those passed down from Jimmy Carter and LBJ.

Three things in the article that sum up the basics of Obama:

"...he (Obama) talks the talk but doesn't know how to walk the walk."

"...there is a sense that there is something amateurish and even incompetent about how Obama is managing U.S. power."

"America right now appears to be unreliable to traditional friends, compliant to rivals, and weak to enemies."

Obama was and is unprepared, naive, incompetent and over his head. I knew this after the 2nd Democratic debate and more so in many of his reply's to questions. The platitudes and rhetoric of changing Washington was old and overplayed in the past, but he doubled down with "Hope" and "Change" and it seemed the right mix of empty rhetoric, pandering and promises in a very charismatic person. The bad news is: We as a people bought into it.

I didn't realize that Zuckerman was the czar of the world and could speak on behalf of everyone. Well, I guess that means my opinion is just irrelevant then!

Actually... I don't think Obama is incompetent. I want him to fulfill his campaign promises, but that just makes him a liar, not incompetent. Bush was the epitome of incompetent, and Clinton was just... ugh... I don't even know where to begin. I still think Obama has the potential to be one of the better recent leaders. I like his foreign policy, I think his economic policy has been, for the most part, genuine, but the health care bill is a black mark on him. He could have done way better than just accepting a half-assed bipartisan effort that plays into the hands of private health care corporations.

EDIT: I am also annoyed that he isn't inviting international assistance to come to the U.S. and help with the oil spill. It seems very high and mighty.

Certainly not. But he wrote what many reasonable and critical people have now been thinking... Obama was a mistake. That means the Obama defenders to the death won't be impressed, swayed or daunted in their ability to either deny, defend or discredit those who say negative things about Obama.

Why is it people who don't really have a legitimate point always resort to using terms like " many reasonable and critical people" as if they have real meaning?

Sounds like just anotther sour grapes rightie to to me.

Obama's shallow plan to spend $23 billion on education

There are much more especially surrounding the lack of leadership, lack of activity and lack of focus around the Oil Spill which is the latest blunder. Obama already lost MSNBC - at least partly. When those folks turn their backs and shake their heads... it's all downhill from here. You don't like my terminology - s'okay. Know that it means simply, criticism is growing and it's not coming from the Right wing side of the isle only any more. The independents fled months ago with the Health Care disaster. Now the Democrats are starting to slowly back away... it is what it is.

Why is it that anyone who critisizes Obama NEVER has a "legitimate point" in the eyes of starry eyed, true believers.

Noone ever has a "legitimate point" in the starry eyes of true believers. That's what makes them true believers.

I had high hopes for President Obama based on the intensity of his rhetoric and his angelic charisma, but based on his performance so far-- remember, we're not even halfway through his term yet-- I'm inclined to say that he simply doesn't have the political muscle to get what he wants. He's getting trampled six different ways by his own party and every tinpot dictatorship that wants to have a go at him. It's a shame. I would have thought that coming up through Illinois politics that he'd have learned to brawl.

Don't have a clue, as I'm not, nor do I know any "starry eyed, true believers," but I do see and hear from a whole bunch of we lost, so we're gonna bitch about everything he does types.

It's no surprise that the vast majority of what he does and believes in I disagree with. He's a progressive and therefore has a totally different world view that me. So of course I will criticize most of what he does... his answer is governemnt, my answer is free enterprise. True believers are those who fight and defend Obama no matter what facts to the contrary are provided.

I wish there were more things I could agree with from Obama but on those rare occasions when he does something right, I'll be there saying so. It's less about denial and defense and more about just being honest.

Ah, don't forget that the nationalistic mob would roast him for "making America appear dependent on others" if he did that. The same people who now complain he doesn't take that help. For them, it would be another sign of Obama "not being tough" because he doesn't kick furriners in the balls, and because even the slightest attempt at diplomacy and cooperation is "appeasement" and "weakness".

Judging from my impression of the media here, Obama is still generally painted in a good, or at least well-meaning light over here in Germany. There were some critical voices who pointed out he didn't fulfil all of his promises and seems to be stronger at talking than actually doing things, but he wasn't branded as "incompetent" or "weak". The general attitude seems to be a sympathizing, sometimes slightly cautious curiosity.

My apologies for not believing you. I recognize pure partisan rhetoric when I see it. And no, President Barack Obama is nowhere near being a "progressive," anymore than he is a "socialist." Anyone who understands the actual meaning of either those terms knows better. Save it for the Glen Beck Teabagged crowd, as people with more than a two digit IQ aren't buying it.

You don't have to believe me, just read the words Obama said out of his own mouth.

Ok whatever. Doesn't change anything Obama said out of his own mouth.

Are those ideologically opposed to radical progressivism supposed to simply lay down and let your heros check off every item on their long coveted laundry list of leftist agenda?

Yes, that's exactly what I said. Do so immediately.

:cuckoo:

Agree. To me, his foreign policy has been an embarrassment, and domestically, he's amateurish and brings too much "Chicago" with him.

So you don't much care for him either
