'Leaked files from a Panama law firm that creates shell companies show that politicians, criminals and celebrities worldwide have used banks and shadow companies to hide their finances, according to a series of reports by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
Within hours of publication, the divulgences prompted a parliamentary vote of confidence in Iceland, a curt denial from Argentina and ridicule from a close confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The consortium said it had obtained a cache of 11.5 million records outlining the creation of more than 200,000 offshore shell companies. The trove includes offshore companies linked to 12 current and former world leaders, as well as hidden financial dealings by 128 more politicians, public officials and entertainment celebrities, according to the ICIJ.'

The ICIJ just became to the finance industry what Edward Snowden was to the intelligence industry. Brilliant and amazing.

Interesting. Of course, the probability that most of the names mentioned was so close to 100 percent, that it would have been a surprise, were they not there. But it would be more than desirable to see the whole list of named persons and to find out, why there seem so few OECD citizens' names in the reporting.

Damn,

I just did a dupe thread. :(

The crime is reckless. No American's are implicated yet. But with 40 years of records, 200,000 companies...they are coming. When questioned about why no American's the Editor in Chief of Süddeutsche Zeitung said, "Just wait for what is coming next." So, from that statement I think we are going to get a second dump of data.

About the Panama Papers

Panama Papers The Power Players

The Panama Papers project is an international investigation based on documents obtained from a Panama-based offshore services provider called Mossack Fonseca. The documents reveal the secretive offshore companies used to hide wealth, evade taxes and commit fraud by the world's dictators, business tycoons and criminals. The documents were received by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and shared by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project. According to the OCCRP, the stories reveal the shocking extent to which senior political figures and other powerful people are using sophisticated offshore structures to hide their vast wealth. Hundreds of politicians, business people and sports-persons are implicated. The leak includes 11.5 million documents and 2.6 terabytes of data. 100+ media organizations in 76 countries worked on the investigation.

Not surprised... at all.

This is what collections of power does, hide wealth from the populations that they are in control over. Right leaning left leaning governance does not matter, what matters is just about every form of government devised by humanity ends up with someone becoming an aristocrat with a massive collection of wealth. Enough so that the motivation to hide it becomes greater.

For this story though we have a fair number of world leaders, fake organizations, and host nations out there that we may risk encouraging more of the behavior.

Get ready to pay more of "your fair share," western governmental world leaders will soon get in on the same action. We already know that wealth, and corporate interests, in this nation tends to hide cash offshore. Politicians are soon to follow.

Re: The Panama Papers

This is like the 3rd thread on this. Anyone really surprised?

Give it time. The more we grow our own government to a point where more business is dependent on government activity, the more we risk politicians padding their pockets from transaction with oligarchical self serving intentions. At that point, US politicians will hide their collections of wealth offshore just as private corporations in this nation do right now.

IMO that ship sailed long ago. Pols in this country see politics as a get rich quick scheme. [if they're are successful ones, of course]

They don't necessarily need to hide the money off-shore.

It is not the act, it is the amount. The more it grows, the more obscene the amount is, the more it will end up offshore and hidden in fake front shell companies. It is going to happen.

This is from just one legal firm in Panama, there will be dozens just like them, as yet, and perhaps forever, unrevealed. So we may never learn who helped the Clintons and the Blairs stash their million away.

George Soros is the king of it all.

 King of what all? He appears to be the King of right wing boogey men, but beyond that I'm not sure.

Re: The Panama Papers

What does this leak show other than people using legal means to make/keep more money?

What I find most interesting are the government leaders who don't hide this behavior. So many fans of Hugo Chavez have a hard time explaining how a Socialist leader beloved by Hollywood and Leftists the world over could have an estate worth billions when he died...

Re: The Panama Papers

Most of them are the head of countries that on paper believe in income redistribution. Hiding money from their own tax system is a bit of a scandal.

Granted, in the end a few people will riot, a few dozen will be shot dead and then everyone will go quiet on the subject again.

Socialism believes in no such thing. That money should be collected forcibly and spread among the general populace for no other reason than jealousy and spite.

He's the king of wanting socialism/communism for everyone but himself.

It's like Hillary. Bernie Sanders believes in socialism for everybody. Hillary believes in socialism for everybody else.

Just goes to show you that nobody likes to hand their money to government, that includes the ones who run it!

Anyone with a 'foundation' does this for themselves and their buddies. It's the NWO way.
