World Cat Day on August 8

Trying to think of what my two brats could possibly want. (I actually have a feral outside man who is very young but has few teeth--2-3?--because apparently he has eaten a lot of rocks. Not any more, not ever.)

will you give your cat a present?
Well my cat has now seen this topic so I guess I'll have to get her something now.

What she really wants is a real bird she can kill and bring me. She'll have to settle for yet another toy mouse.

Mine don't have to settle. Artemis brings her prey indoors and too-often alive (two daddy cardinals so far, and I could save only one). The dead ones she lines up for me, a mouse next to a huge scary locust. Simon brought a live mockingbird into my office, and I eeked out to the porch until I thought it would be over and came back in expecting to find feathers everywhere, but nope. He ate the entire bird. He isn't exactly ate up with bright but is evidence yet again that when you're pretty, you don't have to be smart!

You still have 4 days to find her a bird.

Carl August Sandburg (January 6, 1878 – July 22, 1967) was an American poet, biographer, journalist, and editor. He won three Pulitzer Prizes: two for his poetry and one for his biography of Abraham Lincoln.

...Folk music
Sandburg's 1927 anthology the American Songbag enjoyed enormous popularity, going through many editions; and Sandburg himself was perhaps the first American urban folk singer, accompanying himself on solo guitar at lectures and poetry recitals, and in recordings, long before the first or the second folk revival movements (of the 1940s and 1960s, respectively) According to the musicologist Judith Tick:

As a populist poet, Sandburg bestowed a powerful dignity on what the '20s called the "American scene" in a book he called a "ragbag of stripes and streaks of color from nearly all ends of the earth ... rich with the diversity of the United States." Reviewed widely in journals ranging from the New Masses to Modern Music, the American Songbag influenced a number of musicians. Pete Seeger, who calls it a "landmark", saw it "almost as soon as it came out." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Sandburg

She can find birds on her own unfortunately. She grabbed one off the balcony a couple of years ago.

Fortunately the neighborhood birds have now learned of my potential little serial killer and avoid her murderous grasp.

the day has come nearer now
I'm a man so like all men I shop for holiday gifts the day before. For example I will do all my Christmas shopping an hour before the stores close on Christmas Eve. I stand in the aisle with other confused men looking at the empty shelves and wondering if something from the hardware department is a suitable gift for a 2 year old. Maybe a garden hose, or a reciprocal saw?

So Thursday evening I'll go shopping for a toy mouse. If they're sold out my cat will receive a pair of pliers and maybe a door hinge.
