Consider the word "democracy". Notice how good it makes everything sound. A democratic decision, a democratic meeting, a democratic giraffe. If the word fits it makes its subject sound good and true and beautiful.

Now consider the word "politics". Notice how bad it makes everything sound. He's so political. Barr is politicizing the Justice Department. Stay out of office politics. Anything described with it sounds ugly.

Consider the phrase "global leadership". Obama will bring in a new era of American global leadership (remember when people said that). It's important that we exercise global leadership. It sounds like something any decent and responsible person would endorse.

Now consider the phrase "world domination". Voldemort seeks world domination. It's a standard trope of fictional supervillians.

Consider the word "compromise". Notice how good it sounds. The Republicans and the Democrats compromised. The children had an argument, but they compromised. Truman and Mao compromised about the division of Korea. Obviously this is the path to world peace.

Now consider the word "appease". Notice how bad it sounds. Chamberlain appeased Hitler. That politician is an appeaser. Don't appease bullies. Clearly it's the act of an unprincipled coward.
