WASHINGTON (AP) — Longtime journalist Bob Woodward said Monday that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly “are not telling the truth” when they deny making disparaging statements about President Donald Trump attributed to them in his new book, “Fear.”
Kelly is quoted calling Trump “an idiot,” and Mattis is quoted saying Trump has the understanding of “a fifth or sixth-grader,” but they’ve said they didn’t make those statements.
Woodward, asked on Monday on NBC’s “Today” show about their denials, said, “They are not telling the truth.” He said “these are political statements to protect their jobs.”
Woodward: Mattis, Kelly denials of his book quotes untrue
Just when I thought Woodward couldn't get any lamer. Unless he heard these comments himself and recorded them, he needs to reveal the names of his sources to be seen as a credible journalist. Otherwise, this is a he said, they said secondhand account, nothing more than fiction.
How many times must we cover the same thing? A good journalist will never reveal their sources.

Yeah ... because they all have the same name: Anonymous.

The thing is trixare, Trump's tweets and behavior confirm what quoted Trump staff members told Woodward. To anyone who has paid attention, it's obvious Trump has the emotional and cognitive abilities of an ten year old.
I'm going to insert a whataboutism here because I did not take poster Cardinal's pledge.
Me neither. :mrgreen:Do you really think the people who are rallying to Woodward's side would be coming to his defense if the man in the WH were Obama?
1. Trump acts completely insane, behaves amorally and rambles incoherently in public.
2. People who've quit the White House say he acts insane, behaves amorally and rambles incoherently.
3. Journalists who've interviewed people in the White House report that he acts insane, behaves amorally and rambles incoherently.
4. Republican congressmen have said that he acts insane, behaves amorally and rambles incoherently.
But nah, there's no pattern here. None of this means that he acts insane, behaves amorally and rambles incoherently. 100% of the people who are reporting that and witness it in public are all wrong.

You're wrong in this particular case. It's a matter of the public having the unfettered right to know the real truth because it is a matter of national security. He said, because I have sources who "heard" Mattis and Kelly say is not enough...
The public also has the right to know how Woodward vetted his sources. Woodward should have been a neutral figure when writing his book so that the public gets the entire picture. Because he took the side of those being called liars by both Generals Mattis and Kelly, he becomes complicit in their lies, hence the book is just another piece of anti-Trump fiction.
You know that this has absolutely nothing to do with national security, to even say so is a complete joke, lady!
Knowing you as I do, I can assure you that if Woodward documented everything you ask, you would still not believe him.
Oh, so you know more than everyone else. According to you, it's quite OK to have leakers, resisters, and liars in the WH working against an elected president whose primary job is to protect the country?
You don't know me, thank God.

Pray tell, ma'am, what would someone like this have to do with national security? Nothing of any of that type of nature was ever released and if this madman has leakers, resisters, or liars in the WH, its only because he chose to hire the very best.
Gimme a break. Woodward accused former Chief Economic Adviser Gary Cohn and then White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter of working against Trump, stealing his memos and documents from his desk thwarting his attempt to move his promised campaign promises and agenda forward. You don't think that this isn't a breach in national security? C'mon, wakeup.
Yeah, the watergate guy now has to invent stuff. 100 recorded interviews?
V's the orange blob whose lies are up to 5000?
And Kelly? He hasn't apologized for blatantly lying about the black congresswoman.
And that's on tape
I thought we were speaking of the leaker, can you stay on topic, habana? As to Cohn and Porter, trump told us he would hire only the best
