So what are your thoughts on this controversial topic?

I am sure there are countless Religious Zealots who oppose it.

Wow, you have to be really far out on the political spectrum to oppose women's suffrage. Of course women should have the vote; you know the whole equal rights thing. We should have completely equal rights under the law has men. The feminist movement in this country was a very good thing in IMO.

I don't have a problem with chicks voting, so long as they vote the way their husband wants them to and only if it doesn't interfere with their cooking, cleaning and child rearing responsiblilities. A woman's place is in the kitchen. Just kidding but not really. lol

controversial? this subject hasnt been controversial in the US for a long time...

Women's sufferage? Good lord, Talk about Right Wing Radicals wanting to what they consider the good old days. Only a very stupid man will even attempt to discuss this.

I am much more concerned about sufferage for Republican Right Wing Radicals. I hope that they are interested in going way back to the good old days when the British ruled America. Maybe they will migrate to Britain or Canada.

Jefferson, Hamilton, Madison, Adams, etc -- today, all these guys would be considered "right wing radicals".

:rofl Controversial since when and to whom?

Maybe if we all convert to Islam.

We know how much they love their women...
Love to beat them that is.

Dogmatic idiots of the far right don't believe in women's rights because their interpretation of their bible says so. Dogmatic idiots of the far left give lip service to women's rights, except when those women have suffered the misfortune of being born into Arabic or other Islamic societies, in which case the mantra becomes "Gang raping women and then stoning them to death because they have dishonored their men is just their way, and who are we to judge?".

In both case, the salient features are limited intellects, and world views based upon the sheepish devotion to repeating other people's point of view rather than anything approaching introspection and understanding. Parrots are parrots no matter the stripe.

I do believe there are people left in this world who are both thoughtful and fair, though. They aren't found at the extremes, but in the middle. The far left has been infected by their knee-jerk reactionary attitudes against Bush and have formed sympathies for the Islamists (i/e -- an enemy of my enemy is my friend), while the far right behaves with their typical reliance on doctrine. The far left is so overrun by moral relativists that there might as well be no sense of right and wrong and the notion of people causing harm to one another is almost irrelevant. The far right is so overrun by moral statists that right and wrong is arbitrary and not based upon peole causing harm to one another, but by social mores passed down from civilizations long dead.

Where do women's rights fit in with all of this? Simple. I believe we are all people, and as people we should all have equal rights despite our gender race, or ethnicity. I belive this because I would not wish discrimination upon myself, and so my point of view is predicated upon this degree of self examination. I don't care whether one opinion is labeled "right" and another "left" if these opinions run contrary to my values.

Brava! :applaud Beautiful post!

One of the common factors found in failing societies and failing civilizations is the subjugation of women. Any country or culture that suppresses half its population, excluding them from economic contribution and wasting energy keeping them out of the school and workplace, is not going to perform competitively with a nation that practices the opposite. The most profound and fateful divide between human cultures today places the failures decisively on the side that would continue to deny women their basic human rights and equitable opportunities, with the successes on the side that realizes, at last, that women are better suited to be men’s partners than their property.

I remember this sketch on the Man Show where they were on the streets and sidewalks with petitions to end women suffrage and most of the people signing those petitions to end women's suffrage were women. If none of those women were actresses I am pretty sure the felt really stupid when their friends and family told the what they signed.I wonder if the same thing would happen if we went around to various places with petitions to end women's suffrage.

I think that you are trying to revive a long settled issue so as to generate a platform for your dislikes regarding religious devotees.

I concur with TOT and Gardener.

excellent post by gardener, cant expand on it at all, its perfect.

I've been wondering. Is it even needed anymore? I had been under the impression that things were pretty much equal now.

That the arguements are just about details, and that the general population looks upon women as equal to men. I know I do. Within reason of course.

There are a very few things that one sex is better at than the other, and there are always those exceptions to the rule.

Edit: Very good post Gardener.

Women's suffrage? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that women will still be needing to vote. As for affirmative action for women, meh. I don't think many places do it still.

I support mens suffrage..........Women have it all over us.....;)

Oh, my mistake.

Trouble is, I'm limited to a dial-up connection, and it would take me about 1 hour to download that.

Nontheless, I have read the discription of that video, and found it interesting.

It isa sad fact that many people do not have a reasonable grasp of history.
Part of this may be because many people feel it has little effect on current situations, but I personally think that we must learn from history and try our best to avoid past mistakes.

Of course, what exact mistakes were made depends on who you talk to.

There are probably a few people around still who think it was a grave mistake to end slavery.

I love your comments. I knew that you were not just mean and antipeople.
I kept hoping to hear your human side and at last I did.
