World Bank President Paul D. Wolfowitz publicly apologized yesterday for the "mistake" of personally orchestrating a high-paying job and guaranteed promotions for a bank employee with whom he is romantically involved, as new details of his role in the arrangement emerged and staff members angrily demanded his resignation.

And here was I thinking that Wolfowitz was one of the "brains" behind the neo con revolution.. turns out his brains are in his pants :2razz:

He should resign, no way any nation can trust him to lead the organisation when he has done something like this.

I'm not fan of Wolfowitz but I see these sort of problems as private problems not public problems. I don't see how having an affair makes you less suitable for your job. Even if a President or Prime Minister had an affair, I really couldn't care less.

Like Clinton did when he got caught in a romantic involvement and was using his position to gain her favor?

I dont care if had an affair.

I do care if he used his influence to get his "love" special treatment and that is exactly what he did.

In trying to avoid a conflict of interest because she worked for the world bank, she had to leave her position, which is normal. She should get a servance package and so on, but then he directly took over the negoations. Now can you say direct conflict of interest!

While obviously im *devastated* to see Paul Wolfowitz in trouble is this not somewhat alarming considering people like him are effectively running the world?

Did Monica get promoted to Chief of Staff or did she remain a lowly intern?

No he used then UN Ambassador Bill Richardson to search for a high paying job for her. He finally turned to Vernon Jordan to do him the favor.

Did Wolfowitz promote his love to Chief of Staff? No, he told the board of the World Bank they had a relationship, as he should have, and they suggested she leave, so he helped her get a job in the US Government where he had contacts.

And end up making more money than Condi Rice. Now that's influence. What do the Bushneviks say about influence? If you've got it, flaunt it.

So what was the plum job that she landed?

As I recall she ended up with an ad firm somewhere making 6 figures. Why does that matter?

Though I have no doubts that Clinton did try to use his influence to land her a job, I don't recall it coming to fruition. Regardless, it was not a conflict of interest as it was not a White House job, correct?

It matters because you're the one who brought it up. And I called you on it as I didn't see one iota of relevance. Did you not post:

Like Clinton did when he got caught in a romantic involvement and was using his position to gain her favor?

So let me return the question. Why did you mention it? So basically, you're saying your post doesn't matter. And for once, I agree with you.

I must give you credit for your inventiveness, but a lie is still a lie, as it applies to how Wolfowitz used his position to influence her career.

Bank insiders confirmed reports from the bank's staff association that Wolfowitz directed personnel officials to give Shaha Riza, his longtime companion, an automatic "outstanding" rating and the highest possible pay raises during an indefinite posting at the State Department, as well as a promotion upon her return to the bank.

Some ad agency, huh?. :rofl

A employer giving special treatment to someone he knows personally? Stop the presses. Was she unqualified for the position? When in said position did she perform poorly?

Trajan, she no longer works there but is being paid over $190,000/year by the World Bank.

Is it too late for me to make a move on Wolfowitz? I can make more money NOT working than I do working.

Sorry, Honey, you're gonna have to fight me for him.

From the OP's link. Are you telling me that you post without reading the links provided?

What a shocker, eh?

It does not matter that even Wolfie apologized... no, he's gotta be defended because he's a beloved NeoCon. Bend over some more, Traj.

It was sexual harassment, creating a hostile workplace by rewarding employees who engage in sex with you with favors and special treatment. It was sex on the job in the oval office. It was an illicit sexual affair which turned into subornation of perjury and obstruction of justice.

How is Wolfowitz a conflict of interest. She was transferring out of his realm of influence. He never hide the fact that they had an above board personal relationship, nothing illicit about it. From the get-go he kept the board and ethics committe informed and conferred with them on what should be done and althought Ms.Riza believed it was unfair that she had to leave her job and career even thought Wolfowitz had promise to avoid any conflict of interest and that he would have no direct involvement with her employment she left anyway and he helped to get her a new job at the State Department.

Clinton, OK. Wolfowitz, put him on trial.

And BTW FOX News is reporting tonight that the head of the ethics committe wrote him a letter complimenting him on how he handle the situation, above board and his complete cooperation with the ethics committe and invited him and Ms. Riva to dinner at his home once she was settled in her new job.

This is about member nations of the World Bank trying to undermine Wolfowitz and get him removed. Nothing more. Now watch the Dems put politics above supporting their country and join in the mob.

Yes I did, in response to

So yes I asked the obvious

"Like Clinton did when he got caught in a romantic involvement and was using his position to gain her favor?"

So let me return the question. Why did you mention it?

Well that's not returning the question but I think I covered it anyway.

So how about it?

So basically, you're saying your post doesn't matter. And for once, I agree with you.

:rofl how do you come to that conclusion. I think basically you want to avoid the subject.

Stick to the subject.

So basically he networked for her...I don't see a problem here.

Do you think she was not "working" at the World Bank, where she was working BEFORE Wolfowitz got appointed there by our government? She is at the state departement because she was forced to leave her job at the World Bank. Why shouldn't Wolfowitz help her when he was the reason she had to leave?

What I don't understand is why everyone is making a big deal out of this...I have pulled strings and made deals to get people I know employed at different companies I work with...its called networking. It happens all the time...why is it such a bad thing with this guy?
