So I was reading this book called Shogun. I haven't finished reading yet but I am really enjoying and, from the impression I've been getting from this book, it seems like Feudal Japan would be a great place to live.
The main reasons I would like to live in Feudal Japan?
1. Sex isn't considered a taboo. You can talk about it freely and also you can get some much easier then you can here. Nudity is considered nothing to be ashamed of.
2. Older folks are held in much higher regard then here. That is why Asia has some of the oldest living people in the world. They understand and respect their wisdom.
3. Honor is the most important thing in feudal japan. People there understand when they make mistakes and make ammends for it ( for Samurai, these ammends can sometimes be fatal.)
4. Japan was beautiful. Still is but it had less industrialization.
5. Art of all sorts is held in high regard.
But of course there are a few things I do not like about Feudal Japan
1. Honor is sometimes held WAY too high in regard. Almost to the point where you can insult someone without even knowing and then SWISH off with your head.
2. Peasants were considered inferior to the samurai. Samurai could walk around killing whomever they liked and peasants had to always bow to them and if not, they died.
3. Some ammends that people made seem to go a bit far. Particularily seppuku, which was a common practice by Samurai.
4. The gap between those who have and those who have was very wide.
I suppose though if the political system was reformed, it would be the perfect place to live. Its a shame that, as far as I know, these times are now past. Ah well.
