What would Terry say ?

Political considerations aside, it would be unwise and short-sighted for both Democrats and Republicans to just blow off something as serious as a sitting president inciting insurrection- not very prudent at all.

Because think about it: there will be future Donald Trumps running for office in America. They may even have. a “D” after their name. If you’re so caught up in the heat and political passions and considerations of the present as to trivialize and blow off an insurrection- because you personally like them so much or for short-term political considerations, what will you do when the roles are reversed and the other side starts to do the same?

This type of brazen, sneering disregard for American law and institutions is very dangerous for the future of our country, and should be called out, condemned, and penalized by all Americans, Democrat and Republican alike, as the dangerous, reckless, and illegal behavior that they are- politics be dam-ed

All games have rules- including American democracy. You cannot allow laws to be broken in a game for short term considerations, because then you will no longer even have a game.

Think about a football game where there is a brazen foul, and it is not called by the ref because he is afraid of being booed by the fans, or the other team is afraid of the short term disadvantages of enforcing the violation of the rules. The game would quickly fall apart. The other team would start doing the same thing and pretty soon there would no longer even be any kind of game left to watch- just a messy, dysfunctional brawl.

I don’t care about short term winning or losing by any politicians. This goes way beyond that. A brazen foul was committed. All Americans need to acknowledge the seriousness of what happened on 1/6 and hold especially its leadership and inciters accountable.

This would be true patriotism.

It's not really difficult to actually run on a solid platform while also being critical of the former President and the way he promoted criminal behavior and ended up instigating a violent attack on the Capitol.

The main problem facing Democrats is the idea that they never actually manage to accomplish the things they run on doing. It's hard to convince voters to put even more Democrats in power when they look at people like Manchin and Sinema and how they seem more concerned with performative centrism than actually improving the lives of the American people. It's just not a very easy problem to solve given the nature of the Senate and the demographic realities of the country.
