Will McCarthy try to end all of the investigations of Trump by house investigations?

Will McCarthy try? Yes.

Will he be successful? No.

But it will align himself in a manner the "Freedom Caucus" demanded well before obtaining their votes for Speaker, in other words this little announcement from McCarthy is basically the far right going into his office and saying "get out there boy, go earn my vote, and defend Trump."

Bragg is a county elected official, so there is indeed not much McCarthy can do directly.
However, the county does receive federal funds, over which McCarthy has a great deal of say. Investigating whether federal funds are being used for politicized investigations and (maybe) politicized prosecutions would seem to be an investigation that reasonable people should be able to support.

It is exactly a 'Whataboutis', drawing attention to that which should be exactly equal, namely equal treatment before the law and the justice system.
This equal treatment before the law and the justice system should be the standard, but appears to be lacking in some cases.
Two standards of justice is no justice at all, so the 'WhatAboutism' perfectly applicable.

Trump made this payment in the weeks leading up to the 2016 election. Clinton was in his second term and would never (nor be expected to) run for any office again. No illegal campaign contribution.

The claim will be that Trump committed a misdemeanor by falsifying a document. There is some thought that Bragg will try to bump it up to a felony by arguing that the falsification was done to cover up another crime.

The problem here:
1. The crime would be a federal crime (campaign finance violation) and it's not clear New York could apply that law.

2. Trump will argue that he paid off Daniels so as his wife would not find out. Bragg would have to prove that wasn't so.

2. Trump was never charged with such a campaign finance violation, and the feds also had closed that investigation.

Maybe the House should stop all the investigations into Trump. Let the DOJ and State AG and DA do the work.

Congress has issues of the debt ceiling, 2024 budget, Ukraine, Health Care, Water issues, disaster relief to work through.
