He has stated he plans to run as an indpendent democrat even if he does not win the primary.

Will his running pull moderate democrats away from the party's nominee, (assuming it is not him, which is fair)?

I think you got the poll wrong. It is Lamont vs. Lieberman in Aug. 2006. And then in Nov. 2006 for the actual election. And yes, the articles that I have read and my gut instinct say that it will draw away just like his running for both VP and Senator at the same time hurt. He doesn't care about the party, he cares about himself.

Oops.:3oops:

Well, I guess I just heard it on the radio, and did that little thing they calll 'assuming'.

Hurt the party in what way? If he loses the primary, then a Democratic seat will become an Independent seat that votes with the Democrats. Nothing will change.

Absolutely he will hurt the party. If you can't even win the primaries....why are you running? Your core audience choose someone else! Who the heck is going to elect you? The only thing Joe will accomplish by doing this is stealing votes from Hilary and possibly damning this country to another four years of mismanagement and international embarrassment. I'd very much like to avoid that, and I would hope Lieberman will come to his senses and try to avoid that as well.

He said he'll run as an independent for his Senate seat in 2006, not President in 2008. I think Joe realizes he'll never be president following his 2004 trainwreck campaign.

Still applies, just remove references to Hilary and damning the country to another four years of conservative rule. It's still unlikely that he'll succeed, and it's still likely that a republican will be sitting in his senate seat if he does run without the primary's endorsement, so it's still hurting the party.

Lieberman stands for nearly everything that is wrong with the Democratic party. Shamol - you're right on the money. He lost me back in 2000 when he refused to give up his Senate seat while running for VP. That move was unprecidented and could have cost the Dems control of the Senate. At the time Connecticut had a Republican Gov. who would have been able to name Lieberman's replacement. It's all about Joe.

Now he's making up political terms: WTF is a "Petitioning Democrat? He might as well call himself a Democrat Republican for all that means.

Ned Lamont is a Democrat. If you're not sure about that, watch yesterday's debate here:
http://www.politicstv.com/links.php?linkid=80&type=dspan#

Lamont embdoies everything the party needs right now, and I'm not just talking about Iraq.

The Lamont campaign is another great example of the growing power of netroots. People all over the country are supporting Lamont.

BTW- This isn't the same Lieberman that ran for VP back in 2000. He has shifted to the right too far. Screw him....

Ah, I can see it now...

If a Republican wins again Lieberman will be blamed as the spoiler candidate just as Nader was before him in 2000

Yeah, but we only blamed Nader as the spoiler candidate because he was. Just like Lieberman will be if he does this, just in a less important race.

Who cares, I love Joe, and the fact that these idiots want to throw him overboard, and after they made him the vice president nominee, LOL, what a ridiculous excuse for a party!:2wave: :rofl

Yeah, it's nothing like washing our hands of Dan Quayle after making him a vice presidential candidate, nope, nothing like that at all. Because that's what non-corrupt, non-racist, non-corporate kiss *** party's like the Republican's do.

That was sarcasm by the way. I'd usually leave that sort of thing to be detected on your own, but I can see from your post that you probably don't need to wrack your brain that hard.

That's unlikely. If Lieberman runs as an independent, the election will be won by either Lieberman or Lamont, most likely Lieberman. The GOP candidate, whose name I don't even remember, would finish a distant third.

Joe isn't the same guy he was in 2000. He and Gore disagreed on a lot of issues too. Notice that Gore endorsed Dean, not Liebermann in the 04 elections.

PS We don't like Zel Miller either. ;)

Hilary? are you kidding me?

If it was between Hillary and Joe, I think Joe would win.

If it was between Joe and a ham sandwich, Joe would find a way to lose. He's unelectable to most people, I don't know how on earth he's managed to hold a government office this long, or at all.

No, of course we care, but only if they take the Republican oath!;)

One of the few Democrats who has not gone completely insane with bds by all means Dems shoot yourselves in the foot and get Lieberman to switch parties.

Joe isn't switching parties. Read the news. He made up a new term, stating that he would run as a "petioning Democrat", whatever that is...

Joe seems to be so upset that anyone would dare run against him in a primary. Hey Joe, that's the way the system works, that's Democracy in action.

Many Dem's like myself have pledged to not support candidates in favor of maintaining the occupation in Iraq. That's one reason why we don't like Hillary either.
