Once again we are faced with the philosophical question of, if the bible is the word of god then which bible is his word?
https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/prog...bible famous for,"Thou Shalt Commit Adultery".
A rare bible famous for an unfortunate spelling error has been found .. in New Zealand.

The 1631 "Wicked" Bible, omits the word "not" from the seventh commandment, changing the line to "Thou Shalt Commit Adultery".

Only twenty copies of the bible are thought to still exist - but one has come into possession of the University of Canterbury

Simple question to ask...does it harmonize with the rest of the Bible's teachings? No...it's a fake...

Considering the bible has be used for anything from justifying helping an old lady to crossing the street to burning her as a witch. Then how is a bit of adultery not in harmony.

burning her as a witch
Nope...you won't find that in the Bible...in fact, Jehovah said of those sacrificing their children in the fire...

"something that I had not commanded and that had never even come into my heart.’" Jeremiah 7:31

"something that I had not commanded them+ and that had never come into my heart* to do such a detestable thing, causing Judah to sin.’" Jeremiah 32:35

The real problem is that bible does not say that burning a woman as a witch is a sin. It is never a case of what is written in the bible. It is always a case of what someone cherry picks out and interprets to suite them.

Yeah, that's where reading and studying ALL the scriptures comes into play...something few people bother with...believers and unbelievers alike...if Jehovah finds burning children detestable, it stands to reason He would feel the exact same way about any human...

There's nothing "philosophical" about it!
It was a printing mistake! :)

That's not the only printing error for the Bible that has happened, either!

That the errors were found and corrected should be your answer!

The 1886 Reports of Cases in the Courts of Star Chamber and High Commission (which gives the Bodleian Library manuscript Rawlinson A 128 as its source) lists this as one of the "two grossest errors",
among "divers other faults".[2]
The other is a misprint appearing in Deuteronomy 5: the word "greatness" appearing as "great-asse", leading to a sentence reading: "Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his great-asse".[2][3][4]

Diana Severance, director of the Dunham Bible Museum at the Houston Baptist University, and Gordon Campbell have suggested that the potential second error could indicate that someone (possibly a rival printer)
purposefully sabotaged the printing of the Wicked Bible so that Robert Barker and Martin Lucas would lose their exclusive license to print the Bible.[3][4][5]

However, Campbell also notes that neither Barker nor Lucas suggested the possibility of sabotage in their defence when they were arraigned.[5]

About a year after publication, Barker and Lucas were called to the Star Chamber and fined £300 (equivalent to £51,071 in 2020) and deprived of their printing license.[7]

The Wicked Bible is the most prominent example of the bible errata which often have absent negatives that completely reverse the scriptural meaning.[8]

The 10 Most Expensive Printing Mistakes

Most publishing mistakes are corrected quickly and sometimes fixed during printing so very few misprints get onto the market. This makes them a goldmine for collectors of rare books.
Book collectors love first editions, and the presence of a misprint or typo is evidence of a very early copy.

Please provide the verse in which "Jehovah finds burning children detestable" as some god in the Old Testament didn't seem to have a problem killing children.

The Hebrews didn't burn people all that much, they seemed to prefer stoning but whores had to be burnt.
Leviticus 21 [NASB]
9 Also the daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by harlotry, she profanes her father; she shall be burned with fire.

Mediums and those who talked to 'spirits' might fit into the category of witches
Leviticus 20[NASB]
27 ‘Now a man or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones, their bloodguiltiness is upon them.’”

Kids who belonged to the wrong families or lived in the wrong places seemed to be a problem to be erased as far as Jehovah was concerned.
1 Samuel 15 [NASB]
3 Now go and strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has, and do not spare him; but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

Psalms 137 [NASB]
8 O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one,
How blessed will be the one who repays you
With the recompense with which you have repaid us.
9 How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones
Against the rock.

Isaiah 13 [NASB]
15 Anyone who is found will be thrust through,
And anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
16 Their little ones also will be dashed to pieces

Maybe the deity giving the instructions in the verses here isn't your Jehovah - who knows.

Hosea 13
16 Samaria will be held guilty,
For she has rebelled against her God.
They will fall by the sword,
Their little ones will be dashed in pieces,
And their pregnant women will be ripped open.
Before their eyes;
Their houses will be plundered
And their wives ravished.

I like a scripture from which you can prove anything, then I can always be right and feel justified.

If the bible is the word of god, then even a cursory read shows god to be a deplorable psychopath and certainly not worthy of worship.

People worshipped those deities who they believed would protect them as long as they obeyed the commandments of said gods and goddesses.

There is the Marcionite argument that the God of the Old Testament -- the "deplorable psychopath" is not the God of the New Testament. Marcion contrasted YHWH who had created the universe but had punished even those who believed in him whenever they violated one of his rules, never mind the slaughter of innocents, with the God of Jesus, who sent his son to Earth to bring love and grace to mankind.

Some things apparently do not change either.

Apparently god had a makeover between the Old & New Testaments.

The problem with anything from the Old Testament is that we don't know what the original texts says, because the oldest documents we have are copies of copies, usually dated hundreds of years after the original was written. Thus saying anything about knowing for sure what an OId Testament text was originally intended is almost impossible. We can make educated guesses, and that's it.
