I was told by the Nuns that I must not allow anyone to piddle in my belly button..That advice still holds good today!!

I try to be open with my daughter. She is only five so I don't go into things too much but I want her to know that if anyone tries to do anything that is inappropriate with her that it is wrong and she needs to tell someone. I want her to have respect for herself and not make some of the mistakes I did because my mom never took the time to talk to me about dating and relationships.

My parents were pretty spot-on. When I hit puberty, they simply handed me a razor and told me I'd find it useful soon.


My palms have been quite smooth ever since.

I was lucky I guess, my parents were very blunt with me. But then again they were raising a man, not a child.

why would they take on the responsibility to rear an adult? (s)he should have been required to care for him/herself

When I was a child, I was expected to start acting like an adult early on. My parents were not rigid or anything, but there was a time and place for being a child and a time and place to start looking towards the future.
Many parents dont do it that way, hence how you end up with 35 year old "teenagers" still living at home and sitting around playing video games working for min wage.

I had a lovely childhood..my parents told me nothing about sex..(I would have been horrified)..it was up until I started growing tits that everything changed..

Still wasting your time I see. But yea, at 18 I was out on my own. Running a drag car, working full time, wondering what was wrong with people I knew that were still living at mom and dads.

Isn't that a sad commentary? I see so many relationships where the woman wants a man to be dependent on her, and it appears to be that she wants to control the relationship. It's hard to find that happy medium.

Both parties need to understand its a 50/50 deal. All of it the good and the bad.
