Why We Can't Legalize Marijuana

Why? From everything I've read from supporters, being stoned is a good thing and actually makes you perform better, and pot smokers are holy and blameless creatures who would never do anything wrong.

If no place else, this forum of DP should have already taught you better. We constantly see examples of one member of some political party say something stupid and posters rush to depict all members of that party as painted with the same brush. That's ridiculous and yet every day it occurs.

So, some pot smokers said they were better, blameless and holy, and you thought to yourself "Wow. That's idiotic. How unfortunate that every pot smoker in the world is as dumb as a box of hashish". Or do you think that among the millions and millions of marijuana users, there might be some smart, sensible and responsible ones. Maybe many or most even.

Just as waking up in the morning with a few shots of booze is not a great idea if you're headed to work as a pilot, neither is getting baked and operating a crane. Most drug/alcohol use is recreational and done in someone's free time, with or without the forbearance of Big Brother.

Now, I could be confused. Maybe the referenced declarants of pot-holiness meant that it simply wasn't as bad as alcohol. Now there's something I can go along with. Drunks weave in their lanes while stoners drive in the absolute geographical center of their lanes at exactly the speed limit. A drunk will punch your face, a stoner will steal your ham sandwich. Alcohol makes you vomit, marijuana makes you hungry. Which sounds better, puke or chocolate ripple fudge?

I think you should read more about THC and how long it stays in the body. What the long term effects are and how in many cases it does lead to harder drug use.
Sure, there will be tons of people who say they only smoke pot and never did anything harder. But the point is ever addict of other dope started with pot.

Marijuana use is detectable in urine up to as much as a month after ingestion. If smoked (depending on how much you smoked) the effects only tend to stick around for say an hour (though it could be longer if you smoke a lot, or eat a brownie).

It would devastate the monopolized medical marijuana industry---oh, and strike a severe blow against public safety and well being of course.

When the referendums came up in California, Colorado, and Washington these lobbying groups were some of the biggest opponents (California businesses spent heavily in Washington on the 'No' campaign). Sidling up next to National Corrections Employees Union (NCEU) and anti-legalization lobbies with gusto they've worked assiduously to defend their interests. It's obviously different depending on the state, in California it's much more aggressive due to the size of the industry, but as marijuana legalization has crossed the threshold of plausibility opposition has suddenly materialized.

DUDE!!!! You got it all wrong, they are really in support of legalization. What happened was they were really stoned see, and they couldn't make out the advertising and stuff clearly, right? So they thought the ads said "For Legalization" when they approved them...Later thay just sat around laughing at their mistake and forgot to tell the the print shops to fix em and stuff. YO! pass the bowl bro... :pimpdaddy:

1. Just because THC is detectable in the system weeks after the last use does NOT mean the person is still intoxicated weeks after the last use. Assuming so is just plain ridiculous.
2. Neither the Institute of Medicine, nor the American Medical Association, has ever found any chemical or property in marijuana that compels users to try harder drugs. In fact, the Institute of Medicine actually stated, "the legal status of marijuana makes it a gateway drug."

Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base

So, can we finally put this "gateway drug" myth to rest yet?

Hey if pot heads are willing and able to never have to hold a job where they drug test, fine. Sit at your parents house and smoke all you want. But you are not working here.

Your prejudice against marijuana smokers is unreasonable, unfounded, and hypocritical. You falsely assume it's not possible for people to use marijuana responsibly and not be intoxicated at work, but you couldn't give two ****s if someone has a couple beers after work or over the weekend. Hypocrite.

Beer = legal
Pot = not legal.
Pretty self explanatory.

Police = law enforcement.
Employer = not law enforcement.

If you don't want an employee because he/she breaks the law, you should be checking their driving record. Otherwise it's hypocritical.

If you don't want an employee because he/she might show up intoxicated for work, you should check on their alcohol consumption over the last 4-6 weeks. Otherwise it's hypocritical.

There is NO justification for employer-mandated drug testing that doesn't also justify screening for speeding tickets or drinking a few beers over the weekend, with the exact same consequences. Every other excuse for employer-mandated drug testing is complete and utter bull****.
