Why There Are So Few Moderate Republicans Left

On the assumption that this is a lamentation on your part: why as a very conservative person, would you want there to be more "moderate" GOP members?

I am not a republican. I am an independent conservative. Not sure why you think I am lamenting.

Well the Trump GOP isn't even "conservative", it's more just blatant fascist authoritarianism.

The true conservatives have been run off and now they get labeled RINO. Which is probably true since Republicans aren't conservatives any longer.
Do you know what those words even mean? "Fascist authoritarian"? Easing taxes and reducing/eliminating thousands of regulations dealing isn't a fascist objective. Removing mandates to purchase healthcare insurance or forcing them to buy coverage they don't need doesn't sound very fascist to me. Not too many authoritarian fascist governments work to ensure their citizens' rights to own firearms in not abridged. Or that parents be allowed to send their children to the schools they choose rather than the one the government dictates.

You should probably be actively kicking out those wishy-washy types, anyhow.

Moderates on both sides get Bills passed and get things done, it is the basis of how our government is supposed to work. The last time we had a government that would not compromise we had a nasty Civil War, no one that has ever seen war wants another.

Increasing government control, blind nationalism, severe police state, establishment of the Corporate-State, promotion of the New Aristocracy. Sounds like fascism to me.

The next step is realizing that the "true conservatives" were never more than a tiny fraction, the Republicans have always been like this.

Cult members think these are positives.....

There are a few people less credible than you what it means to be a “true conservative”...but not many.

As a member of the democratic party, I can't vote for any democrats in the upcoming election. They have swung WAY too far left. Even President Obama would be considered moderate compared to todays democratic party.

When the left is generally standing on the precipice of full blown Communism the "moderate right" may seem to be quite a long way off to them.

I'm with you. You should aggressively test your members for philosophical purity, and boot out the commies thus revealed.

This will, over time, put the GOP right where it belongs.

Great read. GOP is becoming hardcore conservative with no room for moderate views.

As a conservative "outside" of the Republican Party, this is my response to that article's question:

1. It is a fallacy to think that Trump and his supporters are NOT Republican moderates. Rather, they should be considered Republicans who are sick and tired of their Party Elites.

2. Some Republicans who are sick and tired of their Party Elites have simply decided to abandon the Party altogether.

3. Those Elites are Party members who are running things for their own benefit and for the benefit of their donors...especially, in the case of Congressional Republicans, for their globalist donors. Some of those Elites were mentioned in the article: Amash, Hurd...and you can add Flake and others. There are still Elites remaining, though...McConnell, Burr and others.

4. The article's concept of "Trumpian" is flawed, as well. It is based on the following from the article it referred to: "The Five Wings Of The Republican Party".

We don’t have an official definition of Trumpism, but we’re describing it here in terms of four areas where Trump is somewhat distinct from previous Republican presidents:

(i) anti-institutionalism (his attacks on the Justice Department and the media, for example);

(ii) economic protectionism (his wariness about international trade agreements);

(iii) foreign policy (his hostility to NATO); and

(iv) immigration and race (the border wall, the travel ban).

(i) Trump isn't "anti-institution". He is anti-criminal institution and anti-Trump hating media...and for good reason. He has been targeted by both for five years.

(ii) Trump IS wary of international trade agreements. He wants them to benefit the US. That's a good thing.

(iii) Trump isn't hostile to NATO. He is just determined to not allow NATO to take advantage of the US...especially when it comes to money.

(iv) Immigration has nothing to do with race. Neither does the wall nor the travel ban. It is all about national and economic security.

The moderate Republicans who have stayed with the Party and who support Trump (90+%) support him for his positions, as I'VE outlined them...not the positions that FiveThirtyEight falsely assigns to him.

This article is chock full of similar falsities, mis-directions and assumptions. I find, in its entirety, the article to be downright useless.

On nearly every issue the Republicans today are more liberal than they were twenty years ago. In many ways they're more liberal than most Democrats were twenty years ago.

You don't notice this drift because you have little capacity for critical thinking and therefore use the POV of the MSM (which has become more liberal at a faster rate) as a reference point.

There are absolutely communist sympathizers in the GOP though, generally speaking, I don't think most of them realize that's what they're supporting. Most of them, George Bush, as an example, view Internationalism as a good thing. They view most democratic processes as a good thing. They simply fail to recognize that those pushing for Internationalism have pretty much always been Marxists of one stripe or another. The IWA, League of Nations and eventually the UN all advocate for essentially Marxist goals.

By all means expel these members, LOUDLY.

You don't want them and you don't need them.

They generally leave on their own. They have their "Lincoln Project" and the Bill Kristol/Mitt Romney "Republicans for the Rule of Law". That branch of the GOP are exactly the ones that managed to piss off enough of their base that Trump got elected and, like the Democrats, they believe their own bull**** so deeply that they can't manage the slightest introspection.

None of which has happened except in the fevered minds of the looney left.

Yes, the scrapheap of history.

Well if that's true it's because they have to battle an ever left leaning democrat party who seem to support, socialist, marxist, communist, anarchist and think violence, looting, vandalism and assault are all OK. Add that to the traditional belief in killing babies in the womb, allowing illegal immigrants to freely enter the country and ignoring inner city violence, it's hard to not seem like the republican are going more conservative.

On the assumption that this is a lamentation on your part: why as a very conservative person, would you want there to be more "moderate" GOP members?

You don't which is why the gop is having such a problem. Conservatives want to impose their beliefs on others and abortion is an excellent point. The right will impose laws against it if they ever get their way. How many years has the gop been trying its best to kill off the affordable care act with not a single thing to replace it? We all know the gop would love to get their hands on social security and medicare to 'fix' it. Uh huh.

Then you have the freedom caucus. The name alone grates on my nerves. They can't even agree with the conservatives because they are so super conservative, people like crazy matt gaetz from flori-duh. And now for the main attraction we have Q entering into the party.

That's why you need more moderate republicans.
