Polling tells them that sadly the majority of Americans may be fine with Homosexuality at this point, but they're still a tad weirded out about Transgendered people and if they convince them that their daughters are in danger they will throw every other thing that matters in their lives out the window to keep "creepy men" out of girls locker rooms no matter how stupid that is.
It's no different than Guns, God, Abortion, and Taxes.
Liberals aren't actually taking away your guns, but if they can convince people we are certain groups will never vote Liberal no matter how much it might improve their quality of life.

The Majority of Republicans wouldn't actually see any kind of tax increase under Democrat policy, in fact, most of them would be on the receiving end of benefits that would improve their lives, but as long as they can convince these idiots that their tax dollars are being used to support welfare for black people they don't care.

I'm all for fairness as well. Instead of vilifying transgender athletes and the people who support them, why can't we discuss possible solutions that appeal to everyone's sense of fairness?

I don't have a problem with hormone or other biological parameters in sports as long as they are equally applied to male and female athletes. If people participating in women's sports can't exceed a certain level, the same should apply to outliers in men's sports.

Not a single world record or even world first place has so far been won by a trans athlete. At roughly 1% of the population, in the long run we should expect roughly 1% of world records and world first places to be won by them... but so far, not a single one. [Edit: Actually looks like Lia Thomas might be the first; though not official, her personal bests - as both a man and a woman - look like they've been within spitting distance or better than some official world records.]

Given the vast number of different sports, different local/state/national regions and different weight/age/distance divisions, even the dozen or so examples of state and national wins which conservative propagandists hype up as trans women "dominating" their sport are probably way less than the 1% figure we should be expecting to see: If anything, the evidence at this stage suggests that trans women are probably slightly disadvantaged in most sports.

But it seems that you don't care about that: It sounds like you're happy with trans women 'competing' as long as they are never allowed to break any local/state/national record, never allowed to win, never even allowed to get a podium finish?

Well, it's easier to be outraged about transgender sports than it is to, oh, you know, develop a health care strategy... or ensure access to advanced semiconductors... or improve physical infrastructure. After all, these things take work. You've got to sweat the details, work nights and weekends, engage with many parties with different interests... and let's face it, what self-respecting GOP member would want to sign up for all that hard work in exchange for tens of votes when you can go on television, rant about transgender sports and secure thousands of votes instead?

They're not dumb. (Well except MTG.) They know who's buttering their bread, and what they want to hear... and what their base wants to hear are inspired polemics about the latest social grievance so that it can be turned into another cudgel to be used in their perceived war against some nebulous Other.
