The Republicans lost The Presidency and Senate Elections for 2012 .....they were calling the Election close. Why do you think they lost this election and what factors changed to give the Democrats and the weak willed Liberals and Progressives the win for the Election?

Are any happy with the reporting that was done concerning the Republican nominee?

Currently there is a lot of talk by Ron Paul Supporters of Revenge on the Republicans for throwing Paul under the Bus. Does any think that his Supporters and or the libertarians caused Romney to lose? Did anything to cause Romney to lose? Contributed to the Loss?

Here is some things to know that Rove and the Right didn't take into account on. First Rove and the Right all based their models on what took place in 2008 and 2010. Which is why we saw the Numbers we did.

What they did not take into account was.....1- The Hispanic population grew in the US by 23%. Which means that percentage was not tallied in. that 23 percent more Hispanics that voted in both those previous election. 2- The Black population grew by 12%. They thought Obama was down on the black vote. Thinking he would not carry over 95% of the black vote. He carried 97% with 12% more added to the rolls. 3- Obama carried women by 12 percentage points over Romney. The Asian population increased by 6%. Obama took 12% of that vote up by 7%. Which that vote does Include Arabs.

Moreover Romney lost on the tactical error of being Character Assassinated in the Beginning of the Campaign wherein he never got himself out enough to counter the attacks and to let the country know what he is about. What his message was. The left thru use of the MSM was able to keep his message as a hodge podge of answers.

Should the Right allow Ohio, Iowa, and NH to be relevant anymore in politics? Meaning should other states move up in front of them and speak out against these states anytime they Open their mouths. Should the rest of the Country be telling ALL we are done with listening to anything these 3 states have to say when it concerns Politics and the Way this Country will go.

How many are angry with States like Virginia and Florida? What will you do to make sure that the MSM is forced to come out from taking sides in Future Elections?

if ron paul got on a national ticket he'd win by landslide. republicans would vote for him by default, and many democrats would switch teams due to his liberal policies regarding drugs.

Re: Why The Republicans Lost the 2012 Presidental and Elections: Reasons and Answers.

I know that in Florida, the margin was tight enough that the Johnson vote was almost enough to cost Romney those electoral votes all by itself -- if one assumes that all Johnson voters would've voted Romney if they had no other choice. I know some left-leaning folks who voted for Johnson because of his social politics. Then again, if the Green Party folks voted for Obama then Romney still would've lost.

I think there were probably some people out there who felt that Obama and Romney were nothing more than slightly different shades of the same politician on the issues that mattered to them (the voters in question), in which case they opted for the devil they knew over the devil they didn't.

As for me, this election was my inaugural Finger Vote:

1. Vote Libertarian anywhere I could (President and Senate as I'm in NY)
2. Vote against the majority incumbencies in my state legislature (i.e. Democrat for Senate, since the Republicans typically control it)
3. Vote for the challenger in all other elections
4. Vote for Mickey Mouse in all single-candidate races

The only exception I made was for State Supreme Court, the challengers were woefully under-qualified by comparison and I don't think about the courts in terms of politics anyhow.

I have found this formula to be highly satisfying and will be employing it in the future.

Well didn't Johnson get 2% of the Vote.....Guess that might have been able to help Romney with the Popular Vote? Think Ron Paul supporters voted for Johnson instead of Romney?

Anything else people can think of?

No way. 1) Defense posture of the US foreign policy-lose many foreign policy conservatives, potentially gain some Democrats 2) Social issues-won't suck out enough liberals firmly in place in the Democratic Party. They aren't moving. 3) Economic policies: Get the Republican base if nothing else were of concern to them (and we already know there are), but get no one from the Democratic Party on their side, because Democrats are tied to the welfare state, and Paulites are nearly antithetical to it.

The Libertarian fantasy is one of enormous support, but the numbers aren't there. Why would Democrats switch over to these guys when much of their platform concerns are being amply supported by the National Party? Why would Republicans of foreign policy hawkishness or of social concerns put up with a bunch of people that say their theological concerns/cultural criticisms are bunk/irrelevant?

as this forum shows, republicans will vote republican simply because they don't want a democrat to win. that's why many voted for romney, despite his centrist tendencies. so, i think paul would win, although we'll never know because the MSM doesnt consider him to exist.

But Romney did the following: bent more toward some of the Tea Party concerns, had hawkish rhetoric/status quo American foreign policy, and preached a fairly social conservative message. Republicans don't just vote for any Republican. He tried to get the big tent, and largely succeeded in that regard. It just wasn't enough.

The mainstream media gave Paul plenty of airtime considering the man's rather lackluster base.

Romney lost because he's the Republican John Kerry.

Simply put, he sucked as a candidate. The Democrats were idiots for running Kerry in 2008 and the Republicans were doubly idiots for running Romney in 2012.

The left-leaners I know who threw in with Johnson were comfortable doing so because they believed that their vote wasn't needed to keep Obama in the White House. In other words, they wanted to support a third party while it didn't cost their own party anything (i.e. having your cake and eating it too).

The only reason Romney lost was the media did everything they could to make that happen, what we now have in America is Pravda.

Baloney! Romney lost because he's ROMNEY! Since faux news is the most watched, how is it possible that the media did him in?

Not unexpected response but shall I say - it is still nonsense.

A couple of the punditry pontificating on reasons for Romney's loss, first in Politico
In starker terms, the source questioned: “Was last week a head fake, or were they just not that smart?”

Multiple Romney sources buzzed about one number in particular: 15 percent. According to exit polls, that’s the share of African-Americans who voted in Ohio this year. In 2008, the black percentage of the electorate was 11 percent. In Virginia and Florida, exit polls showed the same share of African-Americans turned out as four years ago, something that GOP turnout models did not anticipate.

“We didn’t think they’d turn out more of their base vote than they did in 2008, but they smoked us,” said one Romney operative. “It’s unbelievable that that they turned out more from the African-American community than in 2008. Somehow they got ‘em to vote.”
and then in a Balloon Juice post commenting on the Politico piece
Here is the thing that Team Mitt and Team Wingnut failed to understand: that when you insult folks and dismiss them, they tend to get mad and they tend to want to kick your ass.

Mitt and the Wingnuts have run a four-year campaign that is only a blond hair’s width away from calling the President a nigger every single day. They are focused like a laser beam on promoting white rage and using every dog whistle they can think of to get the message across. White folks heard them and so did people of color. Team Mitt is surprised that African-American turnout increased over 2008, but that is only because they are incapable of thinking of these folks as people.
Another factor in the Obama victory is noted in a CSMonitor article
Youth vote decides presidential election – again.

Millennials made it to the polls in droves Tuesday – proving themselves a central voting bloc in swing states and defying speculation that their enthusiasm had waned since the days of Barack Obama’s historic candidacy in 2008.

People age 18 to 29 made up 19 percent of voters in this election cycle, up 1 percentage point from 2008, according to early National Exit Poll (NEP) data.

President Obama won this age group with 60 percent support, versus 37 percent for Mitt Romney.

Basically it looks like the Republican Party has failed to connect with minorities and young Americans (obviously there is overlap in the two groups) by denigrating certain ethnic and racial groups and by ignoring societal changes supported by the majority of those younger than 30. As with the FoxNews viewing demographic, the modern GOP has attached itself to a once all-powerful segment of the population which seems to be adamant in its refusal to accept change. Aging Angry White Men rather obviously don't like to listen to the voices of the 'others' and as a consequence they are becoming less consequential in America

Re: Why The Republicans Lost the 2012 Presidental and Elections: Reasons and Answers.

Well I already pointed out the increase in Populations......another factor is 15% less Republicans voted in this Election than the Mid-term.

Also both Murdock and Akin cost the Republicans two Senate Seats. With their comments about Rape and Abortion. Messages to the Southern Cons when in a Presidential Election.....STFU! Next time it's not going to be Demos Slapping you around. It's going to be Republicans. Plus you'll know when we lay that Smack-down, it's gonna Hurt! :smash:

Also they were saying the Libertarians hurt Romney in Virginia and Florida.

FOX is the most watched cable news but if you add up the numbers of all the other cable channels and the 3 networks they are a voice in the wind.

If the media hadn't helped obama in the Benghazi cover up and if they had factually covered Sandy the election results would have been different and those are just the two very most recent examples of four years of the media working for obama.

Yeah it will teach us to do everything we can before Elections to validate that Libertarians helped give Obama and the Demos the country. We will start pounding it home before the Mid-Terms. Then any Libertarians wanting to Run under the RNP. Should be only given limited funds.

Moreover we should make sure Tea party Candidates run against any Libertarians. Thus reducing even more of their chances.

Why blame the Libertarians rather than looking at how the Republican party failed to win? In other words, why focus on the 1% of the vote the Libertarians got rather than the fact that a national political party failed to overcome that 1% after spending billions of dollars?

The lessons Republicans should be learning is how to pick up that 1% and maybe more, not how to crush the Libertarian party.

Then any Libertarians wanting to Run under the RNP. Should be only given limited funds.
Why would Libertarians want Republican money? They're their own party, with their own supporters.

Moreover we should make sure Tea party Candidates run against any Libertarians. Thus reducing even more of their chances.
Why, because the Tea Party are cannon fodder for the national party?

Re: Why The Republicans Lost the 2012 Presidental and Elections: Reasons and Answers.

Because the libertarians cost us Two Senate Seats and maybe even more. It wouldn't have Mattered if Obama won and lost All of Congress. Sure the Southern Con and Tea Partier with their own remarks hurt themselves and the Party. Still with a couple of other close races if the Libertarians wouldn't have ran anyone or supported the Republican. We would take the Senate and have the House. Work gets done and Obama is kept in Check with everything!

No, Only the Tea partiers of the Extreme right are cannon fodder. Dobbs and his Independent Tea partiers lean to the Right. As well as other Tea partiers and they are not Far Right. Some even former libertarians but still Constitutionalists. Yet now Tea party!

Within a Decade the Republican Party Will no longer be the GOP. It will be the Republican National Party.

Obama is the anti-christ and the horned one used all of his evil influence to throw the election his way.

Seriously, Obama won this election because the Republicans had no message other than 'Obama is Bad', 'Obama is a Marxist', 'Obama isn't one of us', etc. etc.

It's a simple fact in politics that you can't beat something with nothing.

Are you sure it wasn't becuase the voters are all stupid? Or because of Hurricane Sandy? Or Hurricane Christie? Or massive voter fraud by those Democrats? Or those pollsters rigging the election?

Your guy lost because he was an elitist dud. Deal with it.
