Are the troops turning on Trump?

"Actually, "the soldiers" may not love him so much. Even before The Atlantic story was published, Trump's approval among the troops appeared to be slipping. A Military Times poll of more than 1,000 active-duty service members showed "a slight but significant" tilt toward former Vice President Joe Biden in the coming presidential election. And nearly half of respondents had an unfavorable view of the current president.

Throw in a few other scandals, old and new — Trump's deferments during Vietnam, his inaction in the face of reports of Russian bounties against American troops — and it's not hard to see why the relationship between the military and the president seems to be souring."

They know the deal. Trump is disgraceful.

Too long the Republicans have taken the military vote for granted.

After his remark about McCain he would have lost but then the Democrats placed Hillary up. And the rest is known.

Should I assume that if he started another moronic war like in Iraq or Afghanistan the slipping would stop? Or are they upset that it's a lot easier to see a doctor now than under Obama?

Few coffins coming to Dover - a real bummer.

Those graves were brought to you by the swamp that hates Trump. Why? Because every dead American meant the MIC profits. Lots of it. Like those 5 trillion from the Bush's adventure in Iraq and Afghanistan to win the hearts and minds of the people that hate us and will hate us till the end of time.

Did you send your son there?

McCain was Dem's favorite RINO. He gave Trump the middle finger by voting for ACA. Trump, as is his habit, never misses the opportunity to get even. Good.

Being a POW is not a license to be a party traitor.

I think being a traitor to today's Republican Party is an honorable thing. Will hope other veterans join suit.

It's a free country. But, then, when you do it, don't give me a sob story how you (editorial) were called names. Actions have consequences.

To even better express their displeasure with Trump, the veterans should sign a petition to go back to the pre-Trump ways of treating them at the VA hospitals. And start a war or two to make them feel important and proud.

you mean like WWI or WWII?

Yes, the "military" IS "souring" on the President.

It has nothing to do with what he has said or not said.

The military, like the nation as a whole, is changing.

Members of the military simply reflect the population profile of the nation.

Many military members nowadays are Dems and, like their civilian counterparts, "dislike" the President.

No shock there!

I have never understood why the largest socialist organization in the country, the military, votes republican

It offer an interesting commentary about peoples self perceptions and reality.

Perhaps that is largely based on the republicant party's defense "budget" policy - republicants want more US military spending (likely to increase their pay and carreer advancement opportunities) and the demorats want less US military spending (having the opposite effect on their public employment).

Obviously we already spend far too much on our military and as a fiscal conservative I want the spending cut, drastically.

There is no (major) "fiscal conservative" party - the choice is now between the (major) party for a bigger federal government and the (major) party for a huge federal government.

If you were a serviceperson ready to put your life on the line for this country, would you trust Donald J Trump to make decisions that take you into account? Your family? He’s lied to them about pay raises. He’s mocked them for getting injured when he assassinated an Iranian general (which might have triggered a broader conflict, so much for his Nobel peace prize).

And they know he lets Putin put bounties on their heads with zero pushback.

These folks are patriotic, and a lot of them are undereducated. But they know a fraud when they see one, especially when it comes to asking them to do the things they’re asked to do.

holy crap. did you just call military members who died "suckers"?

HE’s just saying what most of them think now that they don’t have the military’s votes for their guy.

Hell no.

In any other year his comment about McCain would have lost him the nomination. Hillary has nothing to do with stupid Republicans supporting him in the primaries because he was going to make their inherent racism okay to wave around like a flag.

The Republican Party can never, ever, ever again claim to be pro-military.

i've said forever, and you can ask other posters here who posted with me on another board, that Republicans have never been PRO military. they were only pro USE of military (when it suited them). like against Islamists.

McCain didn't for the ACA. Why do you Trump lovers lie so much?

and I am for a smaller government so I am voting Democratic. I am sick of the insane spending we do under republicans. You should be too. When are you going to catch on, the gOP says they are fiscally conservative but spend more than Dems.

Plus, Trump has taken over the GOP and he is an animal. I don't allow animals in my home.
