Why raising the minimum wage in Seattle did little to help workers

If it were your job or your hours which were lost (cut?) then it just might appear to be economically devastating to you. ;)

Are you suggesting we socialize work hours?

So, people lost jobs, others lost hours, and the net effect per worker was between +$5.54 to -$5.22 a week...

what is scary is that is just the first hike the other raises hasn't been implemented.

I saw an article on this as well. People looking at this they are very worried that the additional hikes will
mean even less jobs and lower income for people that otherwise need it.

that is if they are not out of a job or priced out of the market.

Stop illegal immigration and outsourcing (and illegal outsourcing), and illegal workers (subset of illegal immigrants), in some significant way, and you can talk about raising min wage. else, you're just selling jobs overseas. And worse, these ignorant assholes (politicians, voters) love to cherry pick. Sure your water can't be outsourced, but all the high tech jobs that are actually the key to future growth? Those are the first to go because they are digital and entire groups can be offshored. So you paid a water more and you sent the high tech jobs (and all the R&D, etc) overseas. Bravo.

Raising minimum wage has little to no affect on large corporations. where they hit businesses in the belly are small businesses and or mom and pop shops that simply can't afford the pay increases.
they really hit restaurants and fast food workers hard.

at 30K a year to employee a person the corporation or franchise can buy and automatic burger maker that does made to order burgers.
so you fire 60% of your staff. all you need are 2 people working 8 hours a day to keep the machine full and 2 people to take food to people.

so instead of having a staff of 10 you drop to a staff of 4.

But but but minimum wage at that level was supposed to devastate the economy

Losing your job, losing working hours means making less money or the same amount of money is pretty devastating.

No the minimum wage increase was supposed to raise everyone out of poverty. you know businesses would just be happy to eat the
cost of increased labor with a smile. rose color glasses are just that.

pipe dreams are pipe dreams.

Nice straw man, Deuce. Maybe you should talk to the people who lost their jobs... Or don't you dare?

At least those folks can get UI benefits - the ones that simply lost more hours than any hourly increase covers get nothing but more free time from that government "help".

That was with the assumption that what actually happened wouldn't happen. If everyone remained employed and worked the same number of hours at the higher rate, the local economy would have been devastated. But that didn't happen because businesses tightened their belts and mitigated the effects of the higher wages.

Notice how this type of story is completely ignored by the media and the Democrats. They scream about raising the minimum wage, we object because there are consequences to such actions, which they never take into account. But it's not just because they are stupid, it's because they are blinded by their commitment to big government and socialistic ways.

They see this as a success. It doesn't matter that the results are a failure, it matters that they were able to use government to force the private sector to submit to their demands. The only one benefiting here are those in government gaining more power and control over us, their subjects. The proof? They know it doesn't help anyone else, but they sure as hell are going to do it again.

The liberal idea of helping the lower class is not jobs it never has been about jobs. But raising the minimum wage. After almost 8 years under Obama we have had an anemic 2% growth rate, the lowest recovery in US history. Hillary is going to kill the coal industry and all the jobs and pour billions more into solar that can't compete with natural gas. If there was no government subsidy there would be no solar or wind anything.

It's not a straw man. That exact phrase was tossed around.

Well, yeah it was a straw man since you responded to me making a counter argument to something I didn't say.

Why don't you try responding to me on things I actually said or, If you want to make a random snark comments, don't quote me. Thanks.
