Air-independent propulsion (AIP), or air-independent power, is any marine propulsion technology that allows a non-nuclear submarine to operate without access .

Didn't you spam the forums with this very story (or one similar) a few months back?

As if Russia would ever be afraid of Sweden, in fact Russia antagonizes Sweden often by flying military aircraft close to and sometimes in their air space.

Moscow is doing much more than this against Sweden and all our neighbors

Thank you for making my point for me, Russia (nor anyone else) is afraid of Sweden.

Which was the same comment I made the last time we talked about this, hence you spamming the forums with repeated stories, videos, and images.

Is Sweden going to attack Russia anytime soon ?

No ?
Then why would Russia fear Sweden ?

Meaningless quote with no context resulting in no value to this discussion. Pure projection, we have no indication that Russia does or ever will fear Sweden.

Wouldn't the Russian navy need to have some viable targets for them to be much afraid of Swedish submarines.

The video is almost exclusively mechanical technical and militarily tactical which is fine yet it doesn't provide any of the strategic factors that make the Russian Baltic Fleet vulnerable to the AIP submarines Sweden has and that only Germany also has in the Baltic.

Nearby France has an AIP as do Spain and Portugal but a different more complicated one. Then there's Turkey and its AIP subs that Russia is concerned about in the Black Sea, especially if Turkey goes ahead to arm 'em with its Gezgin missile which it wants to do. Russia's Lada program of AIP in subs has its technical woes so it's still inching along.

Technically of the three AIP systems the Stirling cycle engine Sweden has uses diesel to heat a fluid permanently contained in the engine, which in turn drives a piston and generates electricity that produces refreshed air. The exhaust is then released into the seawater. This is reported to be slightly more efficient and somewhat less complicated than the French AIP variant and is used on the few AIP subs of the Japanese and also Chinese.

The literature on AIP subs indicates they can take advantage of good endurance and extreme quiet to lay in ambush for approaching enemy vessels, although this requires good intelligence about enemy fleet deployments. Good NATO intelligence is not a problem in the Baltic or the Black Sea respectively. While Sweden is not a NATO member it very quietly cooperates with the USA on a consistent basis as Russia angrily knows.

AIP subs can also conduct short and medium range surveillance of enemy naval forces. In situations that favor small, maneuverable silent boats such as the shallow littorals off Kaliningrad for example the Swedish AIP subs are said to pose a serious combat threat.

USN remains unlikely to go much if at all into AIP as the system is not designed for the ongoing long haul muscle missions the American navy has globally. And because of the essentially localized range of operations AIP subs are designed to execute the U.S. need not be concerned about these subs off its shores. The U.S. concern off its shores is unmanned subs and underwater drones etc.
