Because you're not as cool as Canada... ;)

I know. You guys are north of us, shouldn't gravity pull down some of your common sense to your southern neighbors?

Why is cannabis not legal throughout the united states?
Pharma company lobbying, and a lot of idiots who don't know anything about marijuana except the BS lies they have been told and who like to act morally superior

Conservatives...

From what I have read, the war on drugs mostly cannabis, came about at the end of Prohibition.
Consider that Prohibition ended in the end of 1933, and Reefer Madness came out only about 2 years later.

Mostly because of the attitude that "we" (the proper, socailly accpetable, folks?) drink and "they" (the low-life, socially unacceptable, rif-raf?) prefer to use other recreational drugs. As the costs of locking up prohibition offenders are weighed against the tax revenue that could be extracted from "them" is sinking in it is becoming legal (and heavily regulated/taxed) in more places.

Nah, if anything, hot air rises, which would explain our new "alt-right" movement up here...hehe...

Besides, if your theory held true, you guys would certainly have some decent beer by now, one would think.... ;)

Because at one time, unprescribed drug use was inexorably tied to personal moral decay and social dissolution that would rot communities just as public intoxication, gluttony and sexual hedonism did, and would in turn lead to worse vice and crimes. Now, I would argue that doing these things can and still does lead to personal moral decay and dissipation that leads to communities crumbling. But in an age where communities have atomized, and most people do not care about maintaining social capital, every form of self-gratification must be allowed.

Why is it that every drug meant to make you high is illegal? This leads to vastly inferior and more dangerous methods, like salvia and huffing.

Because some people get their sense of self-worth through dishonest self-righteous declarations about the supposed immorality of ingesting substances that said people do not. Naturally, these are often people who have no problem drinking, even though alcohol is a drug and indeed one of the very worst.

Conservatives...

And we will see once again in the future that conservatives will claim led the charge instead of fighting against just like they try to do with womens suffrage, civil rights, prohibition and all the other times they are on the wrong side of history......

Well said, it's amazing it took 16 posts for someone to bring up this huge discrepancy.

And we will see once again in the future that conservatives will claim led the charge instead of fighting against just like they try to do with womens suffrage, civil rights, prohibition and all the other times they are on the wrong side of history......

"...conservatives claim to be totally fine with equal treatment towards all races, and in many cases, claim to be fighting for or to have fought for equal rights. However, does their conservative background contradict them? In most cases, if not all, yes it does. In this article, I will talk about how conservatives are contradicting themselves now and how they have done so in the past. For many decades, if not centuries, conservatives have claimed to fight for the people. However, this cannot possibly be true, which means that it is just a big lie that conservatives tell in order to cover up the past. This brief piece will show how conservatives have continuously found themselves on the wrong side of history..."

Good point, their historic record is nothing to be proud of...

Racism.

When it was first made illegal, it was done by a propaganda campaign that lead white people to believe it made black people and mexicans violent and lustful for white women.

Then as those retards died off, it started to be seen as a good thing til Nixon. He had a war to push, all his anti war protesters were hippies and black panther types. So, double down on the war on drugs. Use Weed as an excuse to lock up his major detractors.

"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people," former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman told Harper's writer Dan Baum for the April cover story published Tuesday.

https://www.cnn.com/2016/03/23/poli...chard-nixon-drug-war-blacks-hippie/index.html

But once again reason started to win out, and States began examining it's medical applications and lessening restrictions.

Enter Ronald Reagan, who was backed by special interest groups that wanted to privatize much of the government. Prisons being one of them. But with the war on drugs dying down, less people were being arrested and sentenced. So time to beef up the racist dog whistles. Talk of welfare queens, gateway drugs, constantly putting any violence by minorities front and center of every narrative. Tasking law enforcement to crack down on black communities to combat this dangerous drug. Civil Asset Forfeiture was expanded, the police given billions of dollars just to fight marijuana. Not coke, not heroin, not PCP. Weed.

Which is used at the same rate by just about every group of people, white, black, asian. But it was only black communities targeted by law enforcement. Which caused resentment and isolation, which lead to more targeting by law enforcement. Til you get what we see today, cops able to execute unarmed black men in the street on the suspicion of having a weapon. A weapon protected by the constitution. So why is just the suspicion enough to warrant an execution? Because the snowflake was afraid? Why was he afraid? Because Law enforcement is being forced to fight a racist war and is losing, badly. Not only could they not curb the usage, it flourished and expanded nearly unchecked.

And now almost every LE agency in the country depends on the drug war for the majority of their budget. They need to keep putting people in prison to justify how much we spend on them, and how many of them there are. Legalize Weed and you'll have to lay off half the cops in the country. Because without weed being illegal, there just aren't enough criminals and crime to justify that expenditure.

They have a 20 % solve rate on murders nationwide, because they are focused on the quick easy arrests of weed possession.

Good points. My apologies.

To be correct, cannabis is not legal anywhere in the US. It should be.

As for reason, politicians are a bunch of spineless idiots who would rather look the other way rather than make something right.

One thing of course is big pharma and then those old dinosaurs who take their money and act like it's reefer madness.

But oxycontin is just fine....
