Why I continue to mask up

I got my second dose of Moderna vaccine in March, so I've been "fully vaccinated" for months. Following CDC guidance, my small group of friends have had a number of get togethers unmasked. But, when leaving the house, or having non-bubble people in the house, I insist on masks for everyone. Why?

First, my spouse is extremely high risk, so it's a constant reminder of the consequences of lapses. Second, it is as much about protecting others as protecting me, and it's such a little sacrifice to do so. Third, I know why masks are so effective in reducing the risk of contagion, because I've researched the issue thoroughly. I'm not a Saint about it, and I've had lapses, but in the main, I don't leave the car without a mask on me, or go inside without it on. And, finally, the Delta variant has reinforced my caution. I understand why the Delta variant exists and why it is so much more dangerous.

Just because one has had the vaccine and is unlikely to get seriously sick does not mean masks are unnecessary. Current research, and real world data, show that the variant can invade the nasal passages of even vaccinated individuals (without causing disease), and that it reproduces so rapidly that infected individuals carry more than 1000 times the viral load as those of other variants. That viral load is significant in the spread (as well as how sick infected people can get), as "sloughing" of viral particles is what causes contagion.

So, I will mask up for you, and for me, and for the public.
 
I'm back to wearing PPE in stores. Work also mandated masks again. My preference is to require the vaccine to participate in society.
 
My wife and I never stopped wearing masks when in a crowd.

In fact, we haven't had so much as a sniffle for the last two years. If our wearing masks contributed to avoiding the flu season, then we will wear our masks in a crowd even when Covid is completely gone.

I don't feel my freedums being infringed upon, neither has my manhood decreased, my wife and I are enjoying life, meanwhile.......

Those so angry about masks are just that, angry all the time. Fuming. Spouting nonsense. Feeling put upon.

GET OVER IT - a mask does NOT make you a lesser person, being obstinate and not giving a shit about other people makes you definitely a lesser person.
 
I wear a mask because I didn't have to for eight hours a day like some people.

I worked a dozen hours a week though and I had to pull it down to wash the dished.

My heart gave out from that and the meat on the grill and my medical Jah and I had to quit last September (2020), I couldn't walk the 1.7 miles one way and make it through the shift anymore.

I like wearing the mask, it protects from all kinds of germs.

I'm wearing two masks in the stores and such; a bandana then a surgical mask. I'm fully vaccinated. I don't want to risk getting Covid, especially the Delta variant. It would suck to have to wear one most of the day at work.

Here we Go again. The same old story of a authoritarianism takeover.
You are free to not wear a mask but don't disrespect those who do for protecting you. You can die of the disease if you chose. That's your freedom to do it. Go for it.
Eventually, those who will not get vaccinated under any circumstances will eventually end up in hospital or dead. It's a given. The government's all over the world could one day soon link the vaccination to any government funding they provide. Also, they can mandate you be quarantined in your house unless you prove you've had it.
That is coming. Those who refuse it have no right to spread it freely amongst the population because of stupid reasons of politics of religion or other conspiracy theories.

CDC recommends that fully vaccinated people:
  • Wear a mask in public indoor settings if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission.
    • Fully vaccinated people might choose to mask regardless of the level of transmission, particularly if they or someone in their household is immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease, or if someone in their household is unvaccinated. People who are at increased risk for severe disease include older adults and those who have certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, overweight or obesity, and heart conditions.
  • Get tested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Get tested 3-5 days following a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days after exposure or until a negative test result.
  • Isolate if they have tested positive for COVID-19 in the prior 10 days or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Follow any applicable federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations.

the CDC should have never been allowed to run the show. And I despise gopE type Mike Pence for putting Fauchi and Birx on the stage, and Trump for giving Pence the authority to do it.
