In Isaiah 45:7 some Bible translations say that God "makes peace and creates evil". Isn't this a contradiction? In this video, Frank explores the intended meaning of this passage and what it reveals about the nature of God.

Humans certainly make peace and create evil.

Since god created humans, at least according to the bible, this checks out logically.

I didn't watch the video.

Why does Isaiah 45:7 say that God created evil?

"If everything God created was good (Genesis 1:31; 1 Timothy 4:4; James 1:17), why does Isaiah 45:7 say God created evil? The Hebrew word translated as “evil” (ra‘) in the King James Version of Isaiah 45:7 has two applications in the Bible. The term can be used in the sense of moral evil, such as wickedness and sin (Matthew 12:35; Judges 3:12; Proverbs 8:13; 3 John 1:11), or it can refer to harmful natural events, calamity, misfortune, adversity, affliction, or disaster. It is in this second sense that Isaiah speaks, and his meaning is reflected in most modern Bible translations of Isaiah 45:7 (emphasis added): “I make success and create disaster” (HCSB); “I make well-being and create calamity” (ESV); “I send good times and bad times” (NLT).

God does not create moral evil. For one thing, moral evil is not a “thing” to be made but a choice or intent contrary to God’s good purposes, His holy character, and His law. Moral evil does not conform to God and His will. God is good (Psalm 34:8), holy (Leviticus 11:44; Isaiah 6:3; 1 Peter 1:16), and loving (1 John 4:8); therefore, His plans and purposes are good, holy, and loving.

As Ruler of the universe, God sometimes creates calamity to accomplish His will. He brought disaster to discipline His people when they turned their backs on Him and refused to repent (Jeremiah 18:17). And He promised to bring calamity to Babylon through Cyrus for the sake of His chosen people—to restore them to their homeland and rebuild their ruined cities (Isaiah 41:8–10; 44:26; 45:4; 2 Chronicles 36:22–23; Ezra 1:3)."

Anyone who has had a loved one with bone mets knows why God created disaster. Things always have to come to an end somehow. They just do.

People, nations, planets, stars... all the children of time are devoured in its maw. What is saving will be saved - in a better place.

Doesn't the story say man was created in gods image? Many of the OT stories seem to confirm that.

Because the Bible was written by men. And heavily edited so that it could be used to control

The word there can be translated calamity.

He creates calamity for those who sew such seeds.

The books of Moses were written by caravan priests for the children of Jericho and those other cities who were living in the hills after their cities fell of internal struggle.

News of this would have reached their superiors in the Holy Land (India) and they may have given instructions, they knew of the Lord's advent and that he needed a people.

No, it is the Hare Krishna Bhagavatam that was edited, the Bible was carefully transcribed word for word.

You're still relying on that IRRATIONAL argument?

The only way you can make your claim, rational..................................is by explaining this first:

For something that's been written by men - lol , how can the Bible give out so many information about creation, thousands of years BEFORE science even knew about them?

He has given His proof why only the GOD of ABRAHAM is the One and True GOD. That, He is the CREATOR.

He has given us information - something that only THE Creator would know.

Can you just please wrap your head around this:

So, tell me. How could it be so many things confirmed by science, have been compiled in ONE Book!

The science crowd doesn't realize their hope relies on many, many assumptions by men.

They stumble at the stumbling block

John 12:40

The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts—so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.”

People who believe in the supernatural have already tossed science into the trash bin, so pointing to science for confirmation of their beliefs is pretty funny.

The problem is right there in the word--"supernatural."

adjective
  1. (of a manifestation or event) attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature.
The Bible reports burning bushes, stars falling to Earth, talking snakes, raising people from the dead, transforming water into wine, and so on.

Believing in the supernatural is a choice. It's not a logical conclusion based on evidence.

Assumptions? Is that how we got to the moon? With assumptions?

Science operates with reason and logic. Religion necessarily abandons both.

Epictetus -
"When someone takes a view that is against what is simply true, it's not easy to find any kind of reasoning that will make them change their mind. That's not because they aren't intelligent, or that you're not explaining things clearly. When someone is imprisoned by their views, they harden into stone. How can you deal with them by using reason?

Something to think about for those who sidetracked the video...it made the valid point that calamity/evil is not a physical thing that can be created...it is something a person does...

Yes, it remains a choice until you experience it…..then it becomes a reality. An individual in our area was swept up in a tornado so high that he looked down on the roof of his house. To see a picture of beauty in nature is not the same as coming upon it in person…..the picture fades away but the experience remains and the experience has many dimensions….

Never mind the word salad.

ANSWER THE QUESTION!

Natural disaster | Causes, Types, & Facts

natural disaster, any calamitous occurrence generated by the effects of natural, rather than human-driven, phenomena that produces great loss of human life or destruction of the natural environment, private property, or public infrastructure. A natural disaster may be caused by weather and climate events or by earthquakes, landslides, and other occurrences that originate at Earth’s surface or within the planet itself.

ANSWER THE QUESTION!
Your question: So, tell me. "How could it be so many things confirmed by science, have been compiled in ONE Book!"

My answer: All of the passages in the Bible you referenced could and were written by human beings with no scientific knowledge. Obviously.

Uh-huh.

For the record…….to the extent that God allowed free will then every human action became possible and likely…..in this case….evil…..

Can you expand on that, please?

Explain what you mean.

Written by people without any scientific knowledge!

EXACTLY!

You can't answer something you don't understand.
You won't make any sense......as shown.

You don't know what the heck I'm talking about!

You gave that evidence here:

Explain what you mean.

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”…..this tells us everything….fallen men do their own will…..anything that is done contrary to the will of God therefore is ungodly…..is not it fair to view anything ungodly as evil ? The fact that some actually do their own will of God does not offset the evil that occurs…..one can view evil as a virus that can infect even the righteous…..IMO…..

Daisy……your orientation seems different than mine….it appears that you believe that God is knowable whereas I believe that God is unknowable. You are attempting to demonstrate that science supports your belief……and once that is done scholars and all people will accept that. If you are successful you will be the first person on earth that has been able to accomplish this.

I am drawn to the opening page of the Tao Te Ching:

The Tao that can be told
is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.

The unnameable(unknowable) is the eternally real.
Naming is the origin
of all particular things.

Free from desire, you realize the mystery.
Caught in desire, you see only the manifestations.

Yet mystery and manifestations
arise from the same source.
This source is called darkness.

Darkness within darkness.
The gateway to all understanding.

(the end)

For contrast, the first words of the Bible are “in the beginning “…..which implies an ending….yet we speak of an eternal God. Elsewhere I referenced a song….Let the Mystery Be….I accept that approach and have no desire to prove anything…..content to offer possibilities and the contemplation of them.
