Why do people stick up for their political candidates no matter what?

It happens in all parties, people vote for a candidate, they get elected and do a horrible job, but the people who voted for the candidate stick up for them no matter what, blind to the wrong they have done.

Why is that?
 
I think the GOP fairly well turned on Bush. I suspect that dems will Obama in the end.

For a lot of reasons.

I just call them shills.
 
If you want to understand why people cling to ideas and beliefs, this is one of the best video series I've seen to explain it.
 
Because they attach the virtue of their ideology to the virtue of the candidate.
 
No it's simple. It's called "egoism". It's a plague in our society. Everybody's "hard", everybody's opinion is the best one. "My congressman is good, but no one else's is". Etc etc.
