Why do 79% of Poles believe in God compared to only 16% of Czechs?

Well from some quick research it is because the communist government of Czechoslovakia was much more successful in stamping out religion and converting people to atheism mainly due to its smaller population and less hardline followers. Today it is more about trying to imitate the West.

It's because the Czechs are more similar culturally to Western Europeans and have a Protestant background, and the Poles are a rural culture who are primarily Catholic.

Just because two countries share a border and the Slavic language doesn't mean they are culturally similar. Slovaks are closer to Poles because of religion, despite once sharing a country with the Czechs!

That is also a part of it but form what I read the attitude of the communist regime is the main reason just made easier by the facts you stated. You can even see it today Czechia (what the Czech Republic calls itself now) is the most integrated with the West.
