1.)learn
2.)teach

1) To learn other points of view, and thus to grow.

2) To practice my skills at argumentation.

I had no choice other than to completely bare my soul and admit that it is my deep and abiding infatuation with mod team members that acts as the proverbial flame towards which my moth-like personna flutters and flits so inexorably.

I don't know if others are aware of this, but Tasha, Kelzie and Stace (and Mixedmedia during her brief, but glorious reign) have perfected the art of cyber-pherimone converson whereby they render their natural chemical allure into binary code and then splice the code into the bitstream of Debatepolitics. It's all very subtle and seamless and we are all but helpless bundles of infatuated man flesh driven by our aching desire.

I have long since abandoned all hope of resistance.

One, because I have a moral agenda that I want to expose others to-- and civilized debate is the most effective means of promoting it amongst people worthy of adopting it.

Two, because I enjoy experimenting with other peoples' views and positions, and trying to find connections between them.

3.) Because I'm generally interested in politics.

I selected "other" because I have fun debating with anyone on here, regardless of politics, religious beliefs, nationality, etc. But the fun ends when I get pissed off at some kook. Then I leave for a few hours.

It also gives people another excuse to be on the computer.

Because..........I just want to be Loved.

because the zoo costs money to visit and the menagarie here is quite interesting

Why debate politics with PMSKid, well frankly I don't have a reason to give you. There isn't any point really, just more of a morbid curiosity that drives it.

Reason 1: I like to debate

Reason 2: I like a place that allows me to go off-topic as much as I stay on-topic

Reason 3: Gunny... what a nice ***.

I voted for the one about being more qualified, but I'm wrong. He has the advantage because of his being part of the nobility and I'm just a prole. :doh

...it's where I go to spank my monkey.:monkeyarm

bad monkey......

why do i debate politics? well, for one i like to debate, not argue, but debate. and politics is important, and so are many of the issues.

Debate because you learn from those who oppose your views as much as you learn from those who support them.

I try to follow the teaching of the philosopher Epitetus and he warns that entering into debate one will almost always be swayed in their belief...

I just think you can't sway me very much but over time I have learned a lot about government...

It is like watching CSPAN with the public call in lines: Support Prez Bush line, the Dem line and the all others line... only you can answer all the stupid things people say rather than talk to the TV.
