Im generalising of course but why arent more women interested in politics as much of a chauvinistic pig i may come off as sometimes i dont value a womens opinion any less than a males on an individual basis. However womens political opinions come from such a small pool that its hard to agree with.

Obvously im appealing to the women in here for the answer to the question but please remember you are from the small pool and im asking about women that arent like you.

I asked my wife and she said that she just doesn't care.

I think it's in the presentation of politics, because women sure as he!! do care when they're told that an abortion ban is on the way, or when their tax return could jump from $60 to $5,200 :2wave: if a certain Pres. gets his way.

I think more women are coming around...but for the longest time, politics was so dominated by men, and many men DIDN'T care what women thought about the issues. But times are changing, and gradually, so are attitudes towards that, so more and more women are feeling comfortable enough to voice their opinions without fear of being ridiculed or told to hush up/that their opinion doesn't matter.

But with the culture of women being obsessed with their looks can this happen?

Like ive said before, i may sometimes come of as a chavinst but i always have time for a geniunely intelligent women who has views beyond worring about herself but seems so rare, not that alot of men are the same. Its just sometimes i find myself thinking whilst talking to a women, jesus is that all you are a self obssessed unengaged bore and i end up sleeping with some of these women but i have no respect for them surely they should turn this around.

I don't know where you're looking, but it's obviously in the wrong places....I hardly know ANY women that are obsessed with themselves like that....I knew a few in high school, but, well, that was high school and there were a bunch of rich snooty kids in my school, so it was somewhat expected (not saying that all rich people are like that, but the kids in my school certainly were....girls AND guys!).

Because the so called 'women' you're spending time with are probably around your age.
At 21, we care about our looks, how others think we look and whether we look good.
At 31, we care about our lives, our destinations, where we fit in the world and if our butt looks fat in those jeans.
At 41, we care about bills, kids, work, sex, home, bills, having it 'together', bills and if our boobs fell.
At 51, we care about more bills, being able to work, health, family, where the hell did our lives go anyway and whether we can afford that plastic surgery.
I'll get back to you in 10 years.

I wonder about this too actually. I thought women enjoyed FireArms and Booze.

I've wondered at times myself, to be honest. Online I know quite a few women who can talk/debate politics, but in real life the only politically interested women I know are all one issue stranglers. They are VERY interested in just one or at the most two issues and beyond that they don't care and usually can't see how most issues *connect* at a basic level.

So most of my friends are men. I could be wrong, but I'd guess many or even most of the women here would claim to have a larger number of male friends. I've been able to make some female friends online, but in real life? Eh, slim pickin's if ya ask me.

*nods* But I do have to give those women just a little bit of credit....at least there IS an issue that interests them.

Yup. But I've always been that way...even before I got into politics.

Most of my family and friends are interested in politics and they fall on both sides of the political divide. The "most" factor is likely due to our age cohort, in that there is recognition that political interest serves one's self interest or values. I agree with Ng that age is one factor that may correspond with political involvement.

Anecdoctally, I have seen that women discuss politics between themselves in a manner that is far different than men. If we discover that we don't share the same opinion of a candidate or cause, we discuss why that is the case. We may end up with an altered opinion or simply agree to disagree.

Political disagreement between men strikes me as an all or nothing debate, where someone must be wrong headed. I could easily see why women in the room would not choose to participate in interactions of that sort. What you might view as a lack of interest, may actually be a withdrawal from that form of communication.

Eh, worth a thought.

I think woman might not talk about politics that much.but they know whats going on. Woman MULTI-TASK.... Men can't and don't. :rofl

Plus....If they hold the election on days when there is a sports event on television…….men won't go. Cause we all know there isnt a night all year where there isnt one on television. :rofl

I was going to say "give it up". She has "no intrest in sex in any way" <her words>.

I think it's one of those left over traditions. Like why more women than men cook at home. Politics have always been a male thing, despite the fact that when you consider studies on what women are "on the average" better at then men (empathizing, multi-tasking, etc), women would be just as capable, if not more so, at being involved in politics. It's getting better, but change takes time.

I can only answer from what knowledge and experience I have. My partner says she doesn't get involved in politics or political discussions because she hates confrontation.
She was raised by two strong concervatives, one is simply a hard-headed right-wingnut, the other comes from a religious background. Since she's of a completely opposite mind, politically, it makes for very uncomfortable confrontations between herself and her parents. So she learned to simply avoid it at all costs.

My family is just one big Irish Mob, so politics were naturally part of EVERY family gathering or conversation. I grew up being the only girl of my genderation of kids, cousins included, and so to just keep up I learned very early on to get involved and pay attention.

I agree with Kelzie in that it's one of those traditions that see politics as a male thing. Even though many woman do vote now I think that actually talking about politics is something that most women are uncomfortable with because politics are dominated by men. For so long women have been viewed as too aggressive if they voice a political opinion. So I don't think that it's so much a lack of interest but more of a fear of backlash.
Plus I think we are finally raising a generation of political women, with more and more women talking openly about politics and with more women in office than ever before I think we are starting to see an increase in vocal participation by women.

i've never noticed women being less interested in politics than men.

been away for a while but anyway.

thinking about it i know how this sounds but women do tend to be submissive by nature. Ive noticedwomen lik me to take control of what we do if that makes sense. However this is strange because ive noticed men turn into *****s and agree with whatever a girl says.

Maybe that's how y'all do things across the pond....and sure, there are plenty of men and women like that over here, as well. But in my experiences at least, I've found quite the opposite to be true, or at least there is more of a balance between the extremes.

Just My 2cents

no not at all be more accurate to say women that turn into girls or men who turn into boys.

Why aren't women more interested in politics?

Because their women!

And the ones that are interested in politics are lesbians.
