He's leading in the GOP polls by a large margin. So a bunch of you have to be supporters. Please explain your reasoning. Thanks.

Who said I would do such a startling thing? Or do you have any good arguments to risk our future?

Trump supporters (my own unsubstantiated, anecdote-driven opinion) generally aren't defined by what they are for so much as what they are against. They aren't (I agree) interested in getting drawn therefore into a discussion about why they are for Trump, as opposed to "against" his enemies.

Oh, it's very simple. If you think wages are too high in the US, if you believe that Mexico is sending us its drug dealers and rapists and therefore should foot the bill for a fence on its northern border, if you belive there should be a religious test for potential immigrants to the US, if you believe that Trump watched thousands of Muslims celebrating the fall of the Twin Towers, if you believe that 81% of murdered whites are killed by blacks, and if you think the "birthers" have a good point, then you must be a Trumpeteer.

Trump now says that wages are too low, so now that's the Received Truth. Sorry you can't keep up, you elitist big-media establishment goon.

Your Fired!

Actually it's not a troll. I have a number of conservative FB friends but none apparently will come forward as Trump supporters. I don't like to discuss politics on FB. So I went looking for politics discussion boards and found this.

It seems a dominant reason has nothing to do with his specific policies but is all about "he's not a puppet". What else?

You clearly don't understand the mans appeal. What you have listed are things he has said that should diminish his support but have not done so. Liberals are baffled but that is because they cant fathom anyone so defying liberal orthodoxy and not being shunned.

You are correct: I clearly don't understand the man's appeal. I particularly don't understand his appeal to conservatives, as a lot of his ideology is quite liberal. I also don't see him "defying liberal orthodoxy".

He's not defying liberalism - he defies Conservatism.

As near as I can tell, his supporters support him not because of his philosophies or policies, but because of his attitude.

Liberals and progressives are not at all baffled by the support for Trump. We have it perfectly figured out. Trump appeals to the same right populist vein that has reared its ugly head throughout history from the Know Nothing Party to Nativism to George Wallace to the tea party folk. Trump fits perfectly with that strain of radical populism on the right.

Simple people with a tiny bit of information, baffled by the complexity of the political and economic world around them, with a desire for easy and simple answers to otherwise complicated questions and a reassurance that the power elites are betraying their mostly rural values and fundamentalist principles. And that last part has nothing to do with where they live.

If he runs against Hillary, him not being Hillary is enough of a reason for me.

from 7.000 words I have written on the subject. Anyone wanting to read it send a email addy to my inbox please

Why do people vote for ......? Let me assume that Trump is serious, the polls aren't flawed, and that some actually consider voting for the guy. I think Trump, and his people most likely, have done their homework. They have looked at surveys and polls, blogs, transcripts, and perhaps even posts on major discussion boards. He now panders to the overall dissatisfaction.
Slick and brilliant move.
Looks at the other side of the aisle. Hillary is doing basically the same thing. Of course she has an advantage, everyone knows it is her time, her turn, finally. She is a woman. She has only one last chance at glory. Ever since Bill got outed, and she "stood by her man", calculating the future benefits of doing so, laying the foundation of a future run, she feels entitled. Because she...is a woman, she is a democrat, she lost out ( HC/Presidency), she panders, she manipulates, just as brilliantly as Trump.
All this says more about us then them. How sad. (some) Most Democrats are just as easily manipulated as (some) most Republicans. Its just that it is so much more obvious when it is "them".
We are in the feel good state of mind, and anyone who makes us feel good at any moment is a winner. We don't think of the consequences awaiting us further down the road, but what pleases us here and now. That is why sincere, prescient candidates get lost in the shuffle of fame, name recognition, and instant gratification.

A scary thought for the GOP establishment - CNN.com

Great point, this cat obviously paid attention to Reagan. I listened to him I think on Face the Nation talk about the importance of fun, of how he wants to be the RAH RAH guy who gets people fired up, and he wants to keep that going all through his presidency.

Against either Sanders or Clinton that should be worth a lot of votes. People are starved for that.

I am going to vote for the guy that pisses the most people off. I don't know if that is Trump or not. When faced with Clinton as one of the candidates I don't know how much more of a joke this election can be.

Why ? Can't you just vote for the candidate who, in your eyes, has the most reasonable policies ?

I don't believe any of them. Take Clinton for instance. Every time her mouth moves she is lying. Are her policies reasonable? We will never know what her policies are until she institutes them.
