Why are single fathers not honored more?

Single athers go through a lot but receive a fraction of the praise that single mothers do

There's not as many.

All parents are honored - in fact, we have Mother’s Day in May and Father’s Day in June (this coming Sunday)

If you hear more about single mothers, it is likely because there are more single mothers than there are single fathers. (80% of single parent households in the US are single mothers.)

I applaud both. I couldn’t imagine being a single parent and my hat’s off to those who do it alone.

There is nothing in that link that is any different to any parent whether single or living with a partner or partners. The male in that link comes to the realisation that being an active parent in a childs life requires certain sacrifices of his time, his personal space and independence. Wow! Go ****ing figure that any parent should have thought that through.

Seems like more crying victim (on your part). If you read a lot of the posts here on the forum and are aware of conservative media...single mothers are commonly vilified and blamed for many of society's ills.

Sorry the need for praise isnt being fulfilled.

How is it there are more single moms than dads? Don't those mom's need dad's to get them in the family way? So you are assuming that the dads don't have a strong connection to their children?

Hi Bodi,

I think it is fair to say that single fathers are less common than single mothers. This is changing though.

I think it is also fair to say that more men abandon mother and child than women leaving behind father and child. Though I think this too is changing.

Society can be quite hypocrite in their judgement sometimes. A woman leaving her child behind is generally considered more bad than when a man does the same thing. A woman being a single parent and taking care of her child is kind of expected in society. I can not motivate why I feel like this, but I feel that women are more often pushed into a single parent situation they do not want than the other way around. I think that in the majority of cases where men are single parents, they have made the decision to leave the wife and take the kid with them for the best interest of the kid. They could have left wife and kid, but they decided not to. So for this group of men, there is no argument. No discussion. What they do is completely normal. They are neither expecting nor waiting for an award. Therefore the situation draws less attention.

I'm aware I am on thin ice now. I struggle putting my thoughts on paper properly. Does it make any sense what I just wrote?
