I actually took a European on a month long tour of America, to show him why America's education lags behind Western Europe.

First stop...
New England, Rural Upstate New York, Central and Western Pennsylvania..

More Sheep wool than all of Britain and it's empire could swim in.

All aboard !!!!
Next Stop...

A long, long history of..
Mining coal, and making steel..

That is raising your kids in, and living in Wheeling, West Virginia !!!!

Even my own father would remember a thriving middle class and wealthy Wheeling, West Virginia..

Next Stop, Richmond, Virginia.
Home of Big Tobacco..
I showed him the tobacco fields of Virginia and the Carolinas.

Next stop...
Small Town America, population 5 people, and about hundreds of billions tons of Corn.

All Aboard!!!!!

Next stop, Louisiana..
The king of Cotton and Sugar.

Next stop...
Welcome to Houston, Texas !!!!!

The Fortress of Big Oil and Natural Gas !!!!

Next Stop...
Good ole Detroit, Michigan...

Home of America's cheap labor jobs, putting together cars under the command and structure of factory foremen.. never having to do any engineering themselves..

Lol

Next stop...
The Rocky Mountain high...
Colorado..
America's beer brewing labor capital...

Next stop...
Beautiful NAPA valley, California..
Californ-I-A.. right down Route 66...

America's version of Champaigne and Cognac France...
Oh my word, how the Grapes grow and flow !!!!
Lol

Next stop...

BOOP!! BOOP!!! BOOOOOOP!!!
ARGH!!!! WELCOME ABOARD THE USS HAWAII..

We're going to bring home a boat load of Bananas, Pineapples and coconuts...
Lol

And in all of these cities...
Take notice of all of the things going on..
Driving busses.. Building homes..
Installing wires, installing and fixing roads and pipes..

ALL are uneducated human labor.
:)

The point being...
Is that living in a natural resource global gem such as the USA..
Does not produce education.

Because the people have not needed it, throughout American history.

There are other consequences though..
It is conducive of bad lifestyles, obesity and drug addiction problems.

Every country in Europe has a large working class.

Why do you think they have things like free health care? The working class was large enough to vote it in.

Their working class actually exists, and it's better taken care of and supported.

So everybody in Europe is working as a scientist and engineer?

With respect, the educational system of the US is designed, run and maintained by a select group of educators who are dedicated to the goal of increasing money sent to the system that they can steal for their own benefit.

They are very good at achieving the goal they are trying to reach.

Educating children to compete in a world economy is not among their goals.

They may claim to disagree with that assessment, but their actions and results reveal their motivations and their goals.

Does not produce education.

Why would it? What produces education is values, not natural resources, which have nothing to do with anything.

Since you've never lived and worked in Europe, you wouldn't understand their education system.

All Europeans are bilingual and many are trilingual, because it is a requirement.

It is not a requirement in the US for many reasons, including political reasons by the government.

Even when US schools teach foreign languages, they do it all wrong. Any educational psychologist will tell you prime-time language learning is up through the 4th Grade, which is when Europeans teach foreign languages.

In the US, you learn foreign language in high school, and it's not mandatory.

The differences in pedagogy don't end there.

In Europe, a student can be in 3rd Grade Math, 4th Grade Language/Reading and 5th Grade Science at the exact same time.

That is impossible in the US. A student would be stuck -- held back -- in the 3rd Grade solely on the basis of poor math skills in spite of the fact that they have higher language and science skills.

European educator recognize and admit that some students may do poorly in one discipline but can excel at other disciplines.

American educators refuse to recognize or admit that fact and reality, and so, because a kid does poorly in reading, we hold them back in the 3rd Grade even though they can do math and science at the 4th, 5th or 6th Grade Level.

And then those same American educators have the unmitigated gall to wonder why we have juvenile delinquents or why kids drop out of school.

The pedagogy Europeans use is called Mastery Learning. You advance only if and when you master a concept. So, when a kid fails to master 6th Grade Math, we keep them at the 6th Grade Math level, and if they have mastered 6th Grade Language and Science then we advance them to the 7th Grade level so they continue to move forward, instead of being bored out of their gourds re-learning stuff they've already mastered.

When American educators reject the Liberal philosophy "one-size-fits-all" that will be a giant step in the right direction education-wise.

You seem to have identified pretty well some of the many problems that plague the American Public Education System.

It has been decades since the primary goal of American Public Education was education. For at least 40 years, the primary goal is more money and the secondary goal is indoctrination.

Somewhere around number three is football stadiums and Basketball courts.

The entire system is corrupted and cancerous and getting worse instead of better.

If a foreign power had done to the US Public Education system what our educators did to it, it would be considered an act of war.

Canada is also been historically dependent on resources and agriculture. As a proportion probably more so than the US. But despite that Canada has the highest educated population in the world.

As for America it's a very respectable 6th place in higher education attainment and is ahead of all European countries, except the UK.

This tells you a lot about America's priorities when it comes to education:

The way the teachers unions make money is by increasing membership. Their objective is to have as many teachers as possible, whether they are needed or not, or whether they do any good or not.

The situation has deteriorated since the federal government illegally gained control and since education is now weapon-politicized.

The only reason the Department of De-education exists is because no one has ever legally challenged its existence in court and when the federal government starts waving money around, the States line up like pigs at the trough.

The Northwest Ordinance enacted in 1787 before the Constitution was even finished being drafted specified that one square mile in each township would set aside for education (schools) so no one can tell me the Framers didn't know anything about education. If they had wanted the federal government to have control, they would have written that in the Constitution.

I'm surprised that Minnesota does not value their hockey coaches more highly.

3 of 4 teams in the "Frozen Four", that's the Final Four in NCAA Hockey, are from schools in Minnesota.

The 8 year tenure of the University of Minnesota Basketball Coach that ended this year was like mercy killing. Why they would pay him so much is confusing.

Figured in dollars per win, he must have been the highest paid coach in the history of sports.

The genius of the Framers was that the constitution is a document that LIMITS the power and reach of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

The idiotic morons that followed the FRAMERS have done things that are both idiotic and moronic.

Politicians should be defined as those folks who can be bought by bribes and who prosper due to pay offs, corruption and petty vendettas.

Sadly, our government is comprised of politicians who can be bought by bribes and who prosper due to pay offs, corruption and petty vendettas.

Our education system is comprised of politicians.
