I was at my in-law's house last week and they're big FOX watchers, but I noticed something that was...weird.

There were a staggering number of ads for gold buying. Literally 3 or 4 every commercial break.

I started paying attention over the next couple of times I went over and it's the same thing.

Why does FOX, and I've only seen it on FOX, run SO many gold ads?

market demographics

ignorant, uneducated viewers
easily manipulated
rely on the words of others instead of facts
respond to fear and threats

faux news is a goldmine (weak pun intended)

"Three or four gold ads every commercial break (literally!!!)"

Haven't watched Fox lately. But am gonna go out on a limb and suggest you are just making crap up here......

.

It's more like at least one every ad break, sometimes two. But that's still an awful lot of ads for a single product or service.

I would have to agree. I watch FNC, daily and haven't seen all those ads.

Be that as it may, who gives a ****?

I bet you still think that Bush caused the recession.

I invite you to turn the TV on and take a look. Why exactly would I make this up?

Be curious to hear why you lay that responsibility on Bush. You may be right, but you should provide your detailed analysis. Seem reasonable...??

It's because Fox news is the origin of the fearmongers who said that U.S. currency will be useless in under 10 years and that gold will be the only reliable standard to fall back on, thus we should all be buying gold. It is only natural then that the demographic who was subjected to the hysteria would in turn be the demographic that the gold gets sold to.

Fox does have a lot of gold commercials - Rosland Capital, Goldline and I think another one. I don't know why that's so bothersome.

There is a large overlap between the fox demographic and people who buy gold demographic, especially considering some fox people directly or indirectly promote gold. Pretty much how all television advertising works. You play the ads the people most likely to buy your product. For another example, you get a similar amount of obnoxious Girls Gone Wild commercials watching comedy central at 11.

It doesnt, it's just odd.

How is it odd? I also see a lot of car commercials on FNC, is that odd? You got something against gold?

And here I was thinking this was a free country and people should be able to advertise what they want, when they want, without people analyzing them.

What if it would be MSNBC advertising gold? I bet shoes to ****pots you'd be buying it up by the truckload. It's because the evil "Fauxnews" (said only by faux forum members) has it on.

Who the hell cares? I see tons of Cialis commercials on other stations. Why isn't that raising an eyebrow, amongst other things of course? :lamo

Chill. No one is saying it's a bad thing (at least I'm not) Car commercials are common on EVERY station as are Cialis commercials. I almost never see gold commercials on other stations and I have NEVER in my LIFE seen as many as I'm seeing now on FOX.

Easy. The price of gold is above $1200 an ounce. It has never been this high. If heroin sold for $1200 an ounce, Murdoch's minions would try to make THAT legal to sell, too.

FoxNews is hemoraging paid sponsers because of Glenn Beck....

More than 200 companies have joined a boycott of Beck’s program, making it difficult for Fox to sell ads. The time has instead been sold to smaller firms offering such products as Kaopectate, Carbonite, 1-800-PetMeds and Goldline International. A handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether. Network executives say they believe they could charge higher rates if the host were more widely acceptable to advertisers.
Think Progress » Apple and other advertisers have ‘abandoned’ Fox News because of Glenn Beck.

Glenn Beck is a paid shill for Goldline during his radio program and then during his FoxNews show he tells his audience the dollar is going to collapse and that gold is their best hedge against hyper inflation and then of course the Goldline ads appear during the breaks. It's a blatant conflict of interest, not to mention Beck uses a distortion of historical fact to sell Goldline which is false advertising. Goldline is under investigation in California and soon to be by the FTC.

Glenn Beck's Goldline International Under Investigation for Ripping People Off

So basically, Goldline is supporting FoxNews and FoxNews is letting Goldline rip off their audience. Phew, what a racket.

The hatred for these gold ads is hilarious and amazing. Just gold ads dudes, big deal. If a bunch of ignorant racist republicans are investing in gold they wont be able to invest in campaigns so think about how great this is, fox hating liberals.

Yes, obviously you haven't watched fox lately because she's being quite truthful.
My husband's a fox watcher and they do wear those stupid commercials out. . . the tooth fairy gave my daughter 2 1-dollar 'gold' pieces and my daughter went around pretending to be the guy in the Rosland Capital commercial, "hear that, *clink clink* that's the sound of gold . . . "

But I've also seen those commercials heavily played on various other channels. Not all, but quite a few - so I think it's just a demographic that is a bit diverse. For the same reason why I don't seem many maxi-pad commercials while I'm watching MMA fights or advertisements for 'Cream of Nature' or things like that.

Aside that - Beck and others are heavy pushers in their shows of the gold-thing.

What htey won't advertise is what the flooding of the private-market with gold will do to the cost of gold if they keep it up.

Basic business. WHich news channel has the most viewers? Fox (you might note that CNN has several adds for gold as well). From a marketing perspective, what would you appeal to? Peoples desire for security. What is lacking? Economic stability and security. What has happened to many peoples retirement and investment accounts? Severely damaged if not eliminated. What has the federal government done to contribute to this? Created a market of instability and a 14 trillion dollar debt with annual deficits. The answer to 'why' is fairly simple. The logic is fairly sound. WHo is pissed off about it? People that couldnt afford gold at 12 dollars an ounce, let alone 1200.

You make a very good point. LOL

It doesnt, it's just odd.

What's so odd? Their audience apparently buys gold. Big deal. Disney Channel's audience buys Justin Bieber downloads and silly bands so that's where those commercials are. Companies advertise to their consumers. That's not odd...that's smart business.

Are they selling these toys as security againsst the dollars collapse?

You ARE kidding, right? That Fox News is the origin of the fearmongers? That talk has been going on since inflation reared its ugly head in the '80's, my friend. And before that, in Nazi Germany, as Jews tried to use what gold they had to buy their freedom. And the Nazis took it off their cold dead bodies and extracted it from their mouths. And before THAT. Gold is, and has been forever, considered a safe haven.

The world's interest in gold didn't just start with Fox News, Orion.

You are right about the demographics, though. That's the ONLY reason. Follow the money. Buying gold takes discretionary income. It's quite obvious that Fox views have plenty of that or they wouldn't air those commercials.
