Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Whole foods will stop purchasing and stocking lobster fished from the Gulf of Maine after a nonprofit organization decertified the state over harmful fishing practices last week.

Thanks, I am not going there anymore, fishing is coastal and there are democrats there! Hm maybe this will help with unemployment?

Save the whales.

This has to do with trying to keep the Right Whales from going extinct. There are only about 340 Right Whales known to be in existence. I think every state along the Eastern Seaboard has enacted some pretty tight regulations along their migratory paths to try to keep the pressure off them and keep them safe.

I know off NJ there are "slow zones" where you can't break like 10 knots to lessen the chance of boat strikes harming them.

I'm not at all surprised that Whole Foods is cracking down - they're very much into sustainability.

Maine is not NJ, there is zero proof Maine lobstermen have caused any deaths so, just put them out of work without proof, get in line with the oil workers for solar panels in 10 years

Whole Foods has a “sustainability” rating that must be met to purchase product.

The Maine Lobster industry has not been shut down - Whole Foods simply won’t purchase from them.

The lobster fisherman have ablut 2 years to comply with regulations set.

Fishing regulations change all the time. It’s part of the industry.

Seems more like you don't actually know much about the situation but are hoping to score some sort of political points.
  • According to data collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service, no right whale deaths or serious injuries have ever been documented in Maine lobster gear. I have many good friends who are lobster fishermen.
  • “This is an outrageous act with very real-world consequences, and no real scientific evidence,” US Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) fumed to The Post. “It’s infuriating.” this was from the fake independent
  • https://nypost.com/2022/09/07/avoid-maine-lobster-due-to-threat-to-right-whales/ sounds more like you would like me to make it political

From their own press release:
In the most recent assessment by the assessor, no evidence was found that the Maine lobster fishery is responsible for entanglements or interactions with right whales.

well now they lost my business, and they had some decent stuff but Shaw's here I go

I crap on all your arguments, there is no proof

go to Rockland Maine and face those guys and tell them tough titty
Ha.

They’ll sell their lobster to someone else.

😂🙄

They are currently commanding record prices. They’ll be just fine - someone will snap up the inventory that used to go to Whole Foods in no time.

I love a big mouth who can't back it up. SMFH

Whole Foods? I'm sure their markup was like 200% anyway.
