None of us were alive at the time but, thanks to the Nazis the choice soon became slim due to their seige against the other parties.

There's no way of knowing who we would vote for. The characteristics of the parties are probably not what they are today.

Heinrich Held, of course - with the full benefit of hindsight.

(I can't believe the Stalinist puppet got two votes already!)

Federal elections were held in Germany on 31 July 1932, following the premature dissolution of the Reichstag. They saw great gains by the Nazi Party, which for the first time became the largest party in parliament, though without winning a majority.

If I was around at the time I do not know how I would vote. Because I would probably have a different set of values and beliefs if I grew up in the early 20th century in those **** hole European countries.

Impossible to know what kind of beliefs I would have held, if I had been born in the late 19th or early 20th century.

But if I had a time machine and went back to 1932, with all the knowledge I have now? Perhaps voting doesn't make sense at all, because you know how it will end.

But let's say I'd have to vote nevertheless -- I'd vote for the Deutsche Staatspartei (DStP), formerly Deutsche Demokratische Partei (DDP), the social-liberal/libertarian party.

The DDP strikes me as the one party most in line with my general ideas, back in Weimar. IIRC, it still won 15%-20% of the votes in 1919, was a crucial partner in the republican "Weimar Coalition" together with Social Dems (SPD) and Catholic Center (Zentrum). It was strictly pro-republican, anti-authoritarian, didn't flirt with extremism and generally libertarian with a social streak.

Don't vote. Get the Red Front Fighters League and the Reichsbanner to join forces and mobilize massive anti-NSDAP/DNVP violence and force President Hindenburg to proscribe the party and arrest its leadership. Try and get the Catholic Church to endorse and cajole the Center Party to abandon its suicidal political path and join forces with the Weimar loyal parties to destroy the far right.

Or grab a gun and kill Hitler.

Chances are that others in the NSDAP would have insisted less on an "everything or nothing" approach than Hitler did (and succeeded with it), so the worst could probably have been avoided. Maybe they'd have become junior coalition partners of some government, on in von Papen's coup, and the monarchists would have kept them from going totally crazy?

I wasn't born then and I wasn't a German citizen so I couldn't have voted.

This is all water under the bridge anyhow.

Speaking of sh*tholes, how're your choices looking?

I voted hitler, gotta keep history going and leave the past unchanged, butterfly effect and all. Heck if hitler never came to be, canada may have committed genocide and tried to take over the world, or england or american somoa or whatever.
