Fair point. I should have mentioned that the pauses were mid sentence and broke the point she was trying to make. I understand making a point, pausing to let it sink in, and then continue to next point. But it seemed like she was pausing at bad times that made her thoughts and points disjointed. I will have to listen again to see if maybe I was just in a bad mood and was annoyed for no reason.

I'm beginning to think the bolded might be possible. She also had some poor moments in the primary.

I like her, in as much as I think she'll fight for the liberal progressive cause. But, I'm not sure she has the stuff to win elections.
The fact is that a lot of men like women who "know their place". For them a strong woman is unlikable by definition.

You your tortured logic is screaming.... LOL

Oil prices have collapsed (and now recovered a bit) since COVID (remember for a time people were PAYING to get rid of oil because all those tankers were full and nowhere to unload their oil), in part due to the economic slowdown worldwide and a price war for the ME producers. Trump didn't do that. U.S. oil production ramped up during the Obama years, in part due to fracking. The liberals and greens didn't like it but that's what happened. That's continued under Trump but it's just dishonest to attribute the drop in gasoline prices to anything your Dear Leader did.

I guess all things said by Vice President Pence have to be a lie. because if they were not lies they would make to much sense.

They don't have to be lies - just the ones that are untrue and that he knows were untrue.

I really hope voters focus on healthcare. It's clear Trump/Pence are worthless on the subject, and their only goal is to tear down the ACA (Obama did it so it's bad) and have not a clue what to do if they win. I was a little surprised when asked directly that he had.....nothing. I thought he'd at least mention the worthless EO Trump signed or something. Didn't even do that. I guess we're just supposed to trust them that this time Trump promises to unveil his awesome new plan, he'll be telling the truth and not lying, again.

Eh he didn't really maintain decorum, he was interrupting a lot and going way over time. Just because Rump did so terribly doesnt give us reason to use him as a benchmark.
He basically "ignored the repeated request of advising him "your time is up" ("shut the hell up") - it was like "a man with a bulldozer mentality"; these right winger don't see women with the equality in their mentality, they still think in 1940's, 1950's terms when they interact with women, especially when a woman is in an authoritative position as was the Moderator.
He kept deflecting as if to disregard the moderator's question, and going back to the previous question with more comments, as if he was incapable of moving on. This was a Debate with 2 minutes per participant, which means, "one should know their content and be concise in how they communicate".. He did not do that, he rambled on like he was still a Radio Talk Show Host.
It was Wrapped in that FAKE PRETENTIOUS SINCERITY LOOK... which came across as a "dogmatic mentality bulldozer"... that had to pander his spin to appease Trump. He forgot that there is an entire Republican Senate that knows what truth is, even though they fear speaking it, for feat Trump will attack and expose something about them if they say anything he does not like.

I can't agree. Trump's mismanagement deepened and prolonged the pandemic in the US. The resulting damage to the economy continues to depress demand for oil and consequently depress gasoline prices. It's a trade off. Thousands of deaths due to COVID vs 10 cents a gallon at the pump.
😁

All of the left wings want is to buy your vote. They offer other countries our money to behave themselves. Now they are trying to bribe young adults by saying they will pay for their first tuitiion in college. That does sound like an attraction. but wait -Where do you think all of this money is coming from. Out of your tax payers money.

Well, yeah, that's how it works. We fund K-12 and have for a very long time. What's the principled difference between funding K-12 at a time when a HS education was all one needed to succeed, and when the minimum changed to some education or training post HS, fund that?

Tennessee funds 2 years post HS for every resident, community college or trade school. Business loves it because the worker pool is more qualified, and it's good for the people/workers who get training they need without going deep into debt to get it.

Harris started off really strong and then slowed down to Pence's level after that. I give her the win. I expected Pence to do better, but the horrible covid response from the administration is just impossible to defend.

conspiracy theorist = maybe it was a hearing device planted on his brain and flew away when he was finished.
Like a mini drone? with a sensor connected to an receiver implant, and the drone had to get closer to transmit...

I do wonder how many people have ever seen "cow pies" and how flies land on it and linger... who knows where they come from, but they can find a pile of shit by mysterious means.

Absolutely.

And she missed a chance to destroy Trump and Pence when Pence referred to the President's healthcare plan. Why didn't she say "The one he promised in 2015, and 2016, and 2017, and 2018, and 2 months ago"?
She definitely left some "kill shots" on the table.

Trump proved again his disdain for women who speak and make no apology for doing so, with his back alley or hill country, right wing county lingo this morning.

Sounds like something out of the fifties. And the same was said about African-Americans, in some corners. I'd like to think we're past this, but it seems we're not. Trump & his crowd ain't helping.

yes, Education is a wonderful thing and an investment in our future. I am saying is this a realistic cost that can be exactly footed by our government. Right now we rely on fasfa to cut our cost and grants.

It's about priorities. We don't care about costs when it's time to cut taxes for the donor class. It's always amazing how blowing up the deficit to lower costs for the global elites is always a priority, but paying for education for the common person is just too expensive! But what about the awful deficit??!! that only matters when the money goes to the little people and not donors and other elites.

And we say we want to encourage higher education and so have all kinds of existing programs, but they're confusing, often only help the upper middle class, and aren't exactly worthless but clearly aren't doing enough. Education debt is crippling families, totaling $1.5T. I don't think the country needs to fund any tuition at any college, but the way we pay for and 'incentivize' higher education has failed. It should be much simpler. Something like if you go to college, trade school, community college, we'll fund up to $X for at least two years, if not four years. Not tax credits that are worthless to people on the bottom or tax advantaged savings plans like 529s that mainly benefit the wealthy with high tax rates, but straight up grants, cash money.

'Bribe'? It's called good public policy, and the voters recognize it!

Bingo!

Eric Clapton once claimed the most important thing was knowing the notes not to play!

Very true. And it surprised me because I've heard Harris in speeches and in the senate during questioning and have always thought she's very good at public speaking etc.

Neither of them really knocked it out of the park. This was as close to a tie as I can think of.

Pence played is weak hand reasonably well. Of course, that included the usual Pence MO of never answering the question. That said, the Pence/Trump hand is very weak. He just lacked to cards to move their interests forward.

What Pence did wrong, however, is that he also refused to adhere to the rules. Doing that when you interrupt a woman or steal her time or always insist on the last word will not play well to the college educated suburban white woman that have already left Trump. This will do nothing to bring them back.

Since time is running out, a good drive that falls short of a score is a win for the team that is ahead. Team Trump once again screwed up an opportunity to get back into the race. Advantage: Harris/Biden.

Tonight's moderator was a step down from Chris Wallace, who at least would call a candidate out when they did not answer the question.
Every debate, unless you're name is Joe Biden, politicians ALWAYS finish making their point. I notice the "progressives" which claim to be so "woke", are the first ones to believe that women aren't strong enough to stand up to a tough debater. Pence held her feet to the fire about packing the courts, and just like Biden, were afraid to answer. The only thing she could come up with was to play the race card. It's so typical of the left. If all else fails, through the old race card out. At times when Pence exposed her voting record as left of Sanders, all she could do was shake her head and deny it. It's true. She is the most liberal person in the Senate, including self proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders. Harris was snarky and indignant. Each time Pence exposed her for things like signing on to the GND, and being against fracking and fossil fuel, she kept shaking her head and saying it's not true. All these things can be easily checked on the internet.

Anyone old enough to remember “Clutch Cargo” cartoons? When he talked his mouth barely moved. !960s, IIRC.

You are right the state should fund it if it makes so much difference. If not this would be a socialist country

Where's the Trump healthcare plan Pence talked about?

The only person who said she isn't strong enough to stand up to a tough debater is you.

They both ‘won’.

Each did the job they needed to do.

Harris #1 job was not to screw up. Not to look like an angry threatening black woman. Not to be controversial, or attacking. She succeeded overwhelmingly. Momentum of the campaign is in tact, and the double digit lead is preserved.

Pence had to stop the bleeding. He could dodge all the questions and responsibility for COVID as long as he gave long, boring measured responses and not dig a bigger hole than his boss already has. He couldnt ‘save’ the campaign - Trump has that job. He just couldn’t make it worse. He did it.

So that is Biden's play we vote for him because we will have a women Vice President.
