There was a little talk this week on the news about some Imus guy calling the Rutgers womens team "nappy headed hoes", but as far as I can tell this guy isn't going to be fired from wherever it is he works (MSNBC???). Who the hell is he(is he just a comedian/commentator like Stewart and Maher??), and why would his company keep him on after an overtly racist comment like that??

He's a radio personality who was number one in New York before Stern, he's really famous, his radio show is broadcast live on MSNBC, he's a liberal and been around for ever so I doubt he'll be fired.

I am no Rush Limbaugh fan, but didn't he get fired from ESPN for saying something much less offensive?? It seems there was more uproar in the media about that than there was about this.....

Nappy headed ho's.... :rofl

Who does Imus think he is? Chris Rock? Only black people are allowed to participate in racial comedy in America.

No surprise you see Sharpton in the fracas.

Go to the back of the bus Imus!

Trust me, if this was Limbaugh, Coulter or some other well known Republican that had said this, this would have led the National news casts...

It's leading the national newscasts now, your point sir?

You can't turn on the television without hearing about it.

I have never heard that term before (the one Imus used). Would someone explain it to me?

Is it really? I'll be honest, this last weekend was my son's 1st birthday and it was Masters weekend(damn you Tiger, damn you), so if it is... I apologize to all for speaking out of my anal region...

Wow. Your son is already 1. How exciting!

It's all over the news today, which was the first I heard of it.

I actually first heard about it over the weekend on ESPN News, and this morning I saw something where Al Sharpton was marshalling the forces, so maybe its picking up some steam after the easter weekend.....

"Nappy headed" is a term used to describe the hair of a black person when it appears to be unkept. I have only heard this term spoken by black people. Imus, being white, stupidly used the term and now many blacks in America are offended, as they should be.

"Ho's" is an ebonic term that is a derivitave from "whores" but it doesn't necessarily mean the subject is a prostitute these days. It is more or less a slang term used to degrade the female.

Imus has a spanking coming. But to not point out the double standard in today's society as to who can and who can't say what should be addressed as well.

Have you heard of any blacks lately getting railed on for using racial terms or making racial jokes? Black entertainers do it everyday. Where's the outrage there Mr. Sharpton?

Beyond the words, it's easy for me to see who the real racists are.

Yeah, it's been a great 1st year, he got lots of toys and things this last weekend, we're literally having to build a new, larger house to contain us... how close are you to your new family member being born?

I guess last night was the 1st I'd heard of it, when I was checking the news online, local, CNN, Fox, CBS, ABC....

Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me. I don't know what he was thinking in making that comment.

Congratulations, I'll be sending more good thoughts your way... I'm sure you'll be a great mom...

Sharpton and JJ have gone after their 'own' before too... ie the detriment of rappers...you just don't hear about it as much.

I don't think Imus remark was racist as much as it was distasteful. Only apology in order is to the basketball team...not aunt jemima and crew.

If I may make one small correction. A nappy head is a term used not for black people with unkept hair. It's used for black people with bad hair. When I say bad hair I mean in sense of : You need 50 hairstylist in Atlanta to get that to look like Beyonce type of thing. Black people who get offended because they're called nappy headed ni&&az aren't offended because they were called ni&&az. They get offended because they were told they had a nappy head. Even if it's true they'll be more offended at the reference to the hair then to the racial slurr. Sad but true.

Did anyone see the South Park a few weeks ago? This thing makes me think of that.

Stan: "But my dad apologized, and Jesse Jackson said it was alright."
...
Token: "Jesse Jackson isn't the emperor of black people."

Bitches and hoes is terminology for dumbasses.
Both portions of the statement are absolutely unacceptable for a professional sports commentator.
The man has lost all sense of tact.

This all Imus BS is just that, BS. If you had to fired anyone who has said worse about black women than what Imus said, then you would probably have to remove or "fired" 90% of the black people on TV or radio and I am not talking about the "rappers" :) Can you spell HYPOCRISY? By the way, J Stewart and B maher are much more funny and with much more substance than Imus.

I think the next line says a lot about Jackson:
Stan: "He told my dad he was!"

I love that song. Makes me cry, especially when played at Christmas.

Nappy has to do with their hair, and blacks say it all the time. I suppose it could be taken as a slur in the context of the comment. Imus' producer said hoes first, which is also a common word used in many Rap songs. Blacks have been using the word ho for well over 30 yrs.

Imus says things that are off the cuff, he probably thought he was being "with it". He is an old man. He has a young wife and son, but he's pretty old. I think his punishment is sufficient. He's paying for the crime, but this will probably make him even more popular. Sometimes making a mountain out of a molehill backfires.
