In terms of their resume - who is most qualified to be President?

Why is he/she more qualified than the others?

Unfortunately, at this time....It would seem to me McCain has the needed experience and backbone to make a difference. It is however, unlikely he will get the Nod, let alone the office. Considering what will be inherited by whoever takes the reigns, No One alone, is going to repair the damage done.

Crap - I forgot him. Can someone add?

What in McCain's resume makes him more qualified than John Kerry, Dick Cheney or Hillary Clinton?

Of the candidates listed, likely Kerry.

I'd point out however that you left two very prominant and highly qualified Republicans off that list.

Powell and McCain, both of whom I would put at the head of the class in terms of actual credentials justifying a run at the office.

Moderator's Warning:
John McCain added to poll. :)

Of the people listed, it would be Mitt Romney in terms of resume. He's the only one listed with executive experience, aside from Cheney who holds a ceremonial job and Giuliani who was merely a mayor.

Of the Democratic contenders for the nomination, it would be Bill Richardson.

I see. So Cheney -hasn't- been pulling Bush's puppet strings for the ;last 6 years.

Dick Cheney, Al Gore and GHWB all have one thing in common -- they were all easily the most qiualified man for the office when they ended their term as VP, with Cheney and GHWB possibly the most qualified men -ever-.

Yeah Cheney is really qualified.....speak of the devil... how is his administrations plan for the Iraq war coming along? :)

I'd say McCain....he's probably the most normal person in Washington and the closest thing to a suit understanding Iraq that Washington can offer

I'd rather have someone with a LOT of gubernatorial experience over a VP. VPs really don't do... anything.

I'd say Romney, Richardson, and Vilsack (where's he?) are the most qualified to be pres. Too bad none of them will be.

Strictly based on resume, Cheney has far and away the best qualifications to be president.

He was the youngest White House Chief of Staff in history.
He served 6 terms in Congress.
He was the Chairman of the Republican Policy Conference for 8 years.
He was minority Whip for his last 2 years in Congress.
He left Congress to become Secretary of Defense for 4 years, overseeing the first successful Iraq War.
He retired from that position to become a very successful head of industry.
He came back from that to spend 8 years as one of the most active Vice Presidents in history.

He's got more experience and more qualifications than anyone else.

If he were 15 years younger, didn't have such a dour look on his face, and wasn't so polarizing, he'd be the presumptive Republican nominee for 08.

Sadly he reminds Americans of the Penguin from Batman so his chances are slim.

The poll isnt concerned with what you think of him or his chances at winning (which are zero since he's not going to run) the poll asks who has the best resume.

But, please -- continue to add nothing to the issue with your petty attacks, if you must.

I'm sure thatls what you thought of Al Gore.

I think John McCain has a way better resume. Dick Cheney is nothing more then a Washington suit who knows nothing outside of politics. McCain is a soldier and a politician. In a time of war, we need a president that knows and understands war and the military as well as how the goverment works. Not some politician who avoided the draft at all costs. Dick Cheney can have all the experience in the world and he still wouldn't be elected president simply because he is a guy in a suit who wouldn't defend America when his fellow men were being tortured the way John McCain was.

Just look at the approval ratings for Cheney. His recent failures and mistakes are proof of just how qualified he is to be president.

It's clear that this country has had enough of ***** *** politicians who went into hiding during the Vietnam war and refused to serve their country and dont know **** about war. It is for this reason that I belive Mr. McCain is one of the most if not the most qualified person to be president at this moment.

Among those listed even though he is highly qualified John McCain is still too unstable. The most qualified for the office no longer want it. The office of the President of the United States of America has been sullied with two continuous presidents who have neither shame nor honor. We have had our share of poor leaders but no decent American wants to be in the company of these last two.

I'm sure thatls what you thought of Al Gore.

Ehh, kind of, but then again his opponent was someone who didn't fully understand the English language, so I think it canceled out.

Why wasn't Al Gore listed?

Looks like a couple of guys are heading for Nickelodian: "Newt and Rudy"

They might replace "Ren and Stimpy"

Some one on the Saddam thread mentioned the fact that the Dems could form an interesting team around Edwards, Obama and Hillery. It looks good but it's two guys with little experience and a woman who, because if her indecisive behavior, can probably only become Sec of State. Still it is a team and that's more than anyone else has at the moment.

I voted for Gingrich for the same reasons. He has some personal baggage that will almost certainly make him unable to obtain the nomination and he, like Cheney, is considered to be a polarizing figure in politics. But he was the architect of the GOP revolution of 1994 and achieved the seemingly impossible by steering the GOP to accomplish the Contract with America in the first 100 days as promised. Without him at the policy helm, the GOP has been virtually rudderless since. He has the experience, the vision, the instincts, the knowledge, and the intelligence for the job.

And he is unelectable.

I vote none of the above.

We need a strong leader who understands the M.E., Someone who knows how to use our Military, Someone who can make the right choice because its right and give a rats azz about the left or right. We will need someone who will see the chit storm that’s coming in Africa (wait and see) and will know how to deal with it. Someone who is respected across the board and around the world.
This man isn’t on your list..........

Norman Schwarzkopf

I agree. I also think Clark would not be a bad choice from that point of view.
