Jonathan Braun of New York had served just two and a half years of a decade-long sentence for running a massive marijuana ring, when Mr. Trump, at 12:51 a.m. on his last day in office, announced he would be freed. Mr. Braun was, to say the least, an unusual candidate for clemency.

Donald Trump's pardoning of a convicted marijuana smuggler with ties to the Kushner family threw a wrench in the Justice Department's larger probe into the predatory-lending industry, The New York Times reported.

On his last day in office, Trump pardoned Jonathan Braun, a Staten Island resident who at the time was serving a 10-year prison sentence for money laundering and running an international marijuana smuggling ring.

Braun's pardon came while Trump's Justice Department was working out its own deal with Braun to fast-track his sentence in exchange for his cooperation with a separate DOJ probe into the predatory-lending or merchant-cash-advance industry.

The jerk never used the well established process within the WH counsel's office to vet those he was considering pardoning. He just went with whatever loyalists were asking of him. Personal favours to entrench their loyalty.
 
Trump did what every scumbag politician has done and will continue to do. There’s no shame or conscience with politicians. The genesis of the evil empires.

How does releasing a convicted criminal out without conditions **** with the DOJ? Seems to me Trump is ****ing with the criminal's victims, namely the American people. Because he is not only letting this guy get away, but also the others who would have been pursued as a result of the DOJ deal. Is that what we can look forward to in a second Trump administration?

He pardoned a crook becausde of family connections. We don't need him running the country.
 


Just saw something in passing that the question of how much Donald charged for these pardons has arisen. It appears this guy handed over some millions in campaign donations........

Who exactly is Trump ****ing with? Was this his way of getting even with the DOJ or not? Was this Trump' payback for the DOJ ****ing with him for four years? Remember, this pardon occurred before Trump left office, before the Mara Lago, before the Georgia indictments, before Jack Smith. When he is elected again, can we expect him to continue to mete out payback? Is that why we should vote for him, so he can continue to show us what happens when you **** with Trump?

There is no law against that. Why shouldn't Trump be able to profit when he is so generous to those who owe him bigly? Didn't you ever watch The Godfather? "If I do this thing for you . . ."

What is with this Presidential pardon nonsense anyway? Why on earth is the President allowed to interfere in court verdicts and sentencing?
Between that and executive orders it's like electing a new dictator every four years.

Did @Mycroft say that the President, pissed at his Department of Justice, deliberately threw a wrench into a DOJ investigation into predatory lending?

And does @Mycroft seem to be okay with the President's interfering in a DOJ investigation?

Moreover, is @Mycroft indicating that trump, if he's reinstated in the Oval Office, will use the powers of the Presidency and the Executive Branch to take revenge on perceived enemies?
