Scenario 1:

- The government shutdown is only about Trump and his wish for funds to build a wall/barrier, nothing else.

Trump wants funds for a wall/barrier.

Pelosi has asked for nothing but to open the government, then will negotiate border security.

Who is holding the government workers hostage?

Scenario 2:

- A man walks into a government building, takes government employees hostage and demands a ransom from the police in exchange for the hostages.

Man wants ransom for release of hostages.

Police have told the hostage taker to release the hostages and negotiate .

Who is holding the government workers hostage?

He opens the government back up, that's all she wants. That would be giving in. And there would be no reason for her to negotiate funds for the wall.

People have the absolute right to find employment elsewhere. When they take those great government jobs with cushie hours and great benefits they also sign a contract saying there's a risk of being furloughed. It was their conscious decision to take that risk. Take the bad with the good. Nobody promised anyone here a job, security or happiness.

Even if true, your sentiment won't garner anyone any votes nor support. I think the best way to go about this is to impress upon everyone the 'big time' need to secure our borders which is something congress will never do (nor will they legislate comprehensive immigration) because the issues are too volatile and will hurt their reelection chances. There also are forces who wish open borders upon America and to give undocumenteds all the rights and luxuries of being American.

Would you agree that this idea of yours should be argued, debated and fought for without holding the government workers hostages?

That would be giving in. And there would be no reason for her to negotiate funds for the wall.

You stated, “That would be giving in.”, but taken from Pelosi’s point of view, what would deter Trump from continuing to hold the government hostage for anything he desires in the future?

I think hostage taking tactics should be forbidden and if one can’t negotiate without holding hostages, then that position has already lost.

This response ignores the effects a government shutdown has on the American people, their security, their safety, their finances, etc. TSA, FFA, Financial Services and much more.

You assume this only effects the lives of government workers, when it effects the American people too. So in essence, holding the government hostage is holding hostage the services Americans rely on too.

So, who's taking hostages in the two scenarios?
