Who do you think will be the candidates for President in the GENERAL election in 2008? Why?

I vote for Barack Obama, John McCain, and Michael Bloomberg.

Obama, because he's the best of the anti-Hillary candidates. I'm not sure Hillary will be able to keep her numbers high once people actually start listening to what the candidates are saying.

McCain, because the most likely alternatives (Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani) are simply unacceptable to a large portion of the Republican evangelical base.

And Bloomberg, just because he can.

Keep in mind that the evangelicals won't vote if they don't have a candidate. They also don’t hold the county parties, the neo-conservatives and sometime traditional conservatives do.

If the Democrats are smart, which they aren't, they would use this coming 08 election to split the evangelicals off into their own party.

If the elections were held today McCain and Hillary would win and McCain would be elected in a landslide.........

One can only hope, but I wouldn't underestimate Clinton, she understands power and her morals seems to be whatever helps her views at the moment. I don't think there is anything she wouldn't do to win, including cheating.

I think there isn't much almost any politician wouldn't do. But Hillary isn't in real good standings right now. She practically abandoned her liberal base. I thi nk she's against abortion now, and she's for this war. Come election time, she'll have alot of sucking up to do.

Agreed. Personally I don't see any way that Hillary Clinton will be able to win the nomination.

I'd do quite the happy dance if Giuliani ran and got the GOP nod. Out of all of the candidates listed, his views are the closest to mine.

He has no chance to get the nomination...........

You people crack me up..............Hillary is a Liberal and the left wing base loves her......Her vote to support the war was a farce to try and woo moderates......She is fooling no one but liberals....

I sure hope you're right about that Navy. "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" I hope she's just saying she is against abortion and for this war to get centrist votes.

Umm doesn't your last sentence undermine your claim that "the left wing base loves her"? Her positions have made her an unacceptable candidate to most of the "left wing base."

If she wants the nomination, she'll have to woo the moderates in the Democratic Party. Unfortunately for her, there are other moderate candidates to choose from who are more electable: Evan Bayh, Tom Vilsack, Bill Richardson. Even Barack Obama (who I will concede is more liberal than moderate) could woo moderates more than Hillary could.

When has she ever said she is pro life? Most Liberals say they are against abortion......Huge difference........

Yeah like Gore and Kerry did......:rofl

And none of those people have a chance to win the nomination except Obama who is a huge liberal........

Actually they did. The DLC supported both of them. The liberal base supported Bill Bradley and Howard Dean.

Perhaps not, but the others could at least siphon votes away from Hillary.

With the new 18 month time frame for Iraq --- you could see another Bush if it's all wrapped up real nice & tidy. But, that's a long shot.

The one serious (R) candidate that seems to be forgotten in this thread is Newt Gingrich. There are an array of secondary candidates that could be his running mate. McCain would be good or even a Mitt Romney might make a good running mate.

As for the (D) candidates --- Hillary seems like the only real possibility. Obama might be a good running mate for her. Gore, Kerry & Edwards all just seem to have "loser" associated with them. Hillary is a winner & Obama would give a sense of newness/freshness & a promising future. If she won & was successful & got re-elected you could see a 12 - 16 year democratic run.

If Newt is successful I just don't see an (R) candidate that could carry on. Certainly not McCain & I don't know enoguh about Romney to make that call.

Dems-Bill RIchardson or Evan Bayh
Republican-Mitt Romney (depends on the moronic evangelicals and their hard on for Mormons) Rudy's anti gun nonsense dooms him. McCains a bit old and psses off the big bucks moneybags in the party. The maverick crown will be carried by Hagel.

Dems-Biden
Repubs-Rice

I think the in the last year of Bushes term he will politically assassinated. The Republicans will do a 180 on him and blame him for everything they told him to do over the previous 7 years. Setting themselves to replace him with someone like him, someone who takes orders, and it good with the rhetoric but otherwise incompetent. George Allen, Mitt Romney, maybe even Jon Kyl.

I'll give George Bush one thing, he actually cares about people and doing the right thing, even if he fails at it. I think from now on the Republicans aren't going to have to find someone who looks like they care, the more anti-terror/socialism/liberal the better.

Ignorance Is Strength.
