Who controls the media?

Well I think Conservatives control the Radio Media and for along time Liberals controled the TV Media. I do feel though that Fox News Who is very fair but on the tilt to the right has began to contol the TV because they have started beating up on the other stations in the ratings. People got tired of seeing so much liberal bias on NBC, CBS, CNN, etc.. that they have been tuning them out.

And at least he presented an argument without sounding snotty, which, again, is more than I can say for you.

I'm still having trouble with the fact that SMIRKnCHIMP is 48 years old and
Billo Really is 47.

I'm 35, and I understand the young'uns more that I do the ones who supposedly have "wisdom".

I think those two play the drum solo from Beatles' "Carry That Weight" on their keyboard and whatever comes out, comes out...

That's right. Media picks the stories it thinks will get consumers to buy their product. Some are liberal, some are conservative, others are neutral, but they are all selling something.

You are right about one thing, the media does pick stories to please the market, but we are not the market, we are the product, advertising is the market. So selection of stories must meet two criteria, interesting to the product and pleasing to the market. So the media love sensationalism and avoid corporate misdeeds and of course the behind the scenes goings on that would shock and appall the 'product'.

Almost everything else from the New York Times (duh), to Time magazine, to CNN, to Dan Rather-style network news, is overtly liberal. Use the criteria liberal groups use to grade senators and apply it to individual media outlets....They are extremely biased. (Most aren't as bad as the BBC, NPR or Al Jezeera, but they are pretty bad)

What's the criteria? And were you only looking for political bias? What about establishment bias? American bias? Market bias? Advertiser bias? Any analysis of media content that ignores ALL the forces that dictate content is weak.

News hour with Jim Lehrer was the most unbiased, but you shouldn't rely on that. Watch a source you KNOW is liberal, and another you KNOW is conservative. You WILL get both sides.

Are there only two sides? You obviously have a bias bias: the only bias that exists is political, and there are only ever two sides.

So your report showed that the corporate, free-market, capitalist media has a liberal bias? Did you venture any guesses as to why?

Surely the award was also based on the academic quality of the work, rather than the conclusions you reached. Exactly which issues were you looking at, how about the coverage of the Ken Lay trial, coverage of any labour disputes, coverage of welfare reform, healthcare and foriegn policy. Or did you just analyse the voting habits of journalists, and coverage of abortion/gay rights. Did your study look into the aspect of media ownership? After all who do you think is in charge, the employee (journalist) or the employer (massive corporations).

Who controls the media? Corporations. That's why Republicans avoid talking about who actually owns the media, and instead claim that it's in the thrall of a liberal cabal, which is nonsense. The media is the corporate media, but since corporatism is a Republican article of faith, that makes for an awkward situation. So instead they concoct a liberal media conspiracy theory; it's not corporate America that's got a liberal bias and is brainwashing our kids with pornography and hate-America ideolgy, it's those evil "liberal elites" in New York and out in Hollywood like Dan Rather and Michael Moore who are "screwing up" America! Please.

Yep, the real bias is corporate PR, and the manufacturing of consent. Liberal media bias is a myth sold to unwitting back-water conservatives, so they can fail to engage in a reasonable argument with anyone that has two-brain cells to rub together.
