Whitmer to call for plan to provide pre-K for all 4-year-olds in Michigan

You could also look at it from the perspective of getting parents who stay home because it's cheaper to do so than go to work and pay for childcare/pre-K, back to work.
Baloney!!!

Don't have kids if you can't afford them, or have no time to care for them. Or one parent work, and one parent stay home.

This is a they problem, not a our problem. Nobody in entitled to have kids on taxpayer supported funds.

This is the classic difference between left and right.

Liberals consider the modern welfare state a private -enterprise economy, but one in which those who were fortunate enough to end up at the top of the income ladder, are taxed to pay for a social safety net, which is morally superior to the raw and harsh capitalism we had before the New Deal. It’s only right, liberals believe, for the affluent to contribute more to the public good.

Conservatives believe that people have a right to keep what they earn, and that taxing them to support others, no matter how worthy, amounts to theft. Many activists on the right really do see taxes and regulation as tyrannical impositions on their liberty.

Ah yes, the right wing "solution" to any real problem...

... point at people and tell them to do better. If the righties put half as much energy into solving real problems as they do fake problems, we might get a few things done around here.

Thankfully abortion is still legal in Michigan. Your plan doesn’t work so well in some other states though.

And some of the folks crying the loudest about paying to feed kids or public preschool also screech about how very precious “life” is (as long as it is in a womb) and swear, it’s NOT about control, it’s about babies. Save the babies!

(Just don’t feed them or teach them)

The solvable problem here is to not have kids you cannot afford or care for.

Besides, isn't the left all about "family planning"?

BTW, I'm not a right winger. I just call them like I see them.

More "cheese". The state is proposing to babysit your kids for yet ANOTHER year of their life. They are not even hiding that the main driver behind this is shifting child care costs to the taxpayers.

Starting the indoctrination earlier. [sigh]

This is what we get in Michigan for electing a democrat house, senate (first time in 40 years) and governor.

Next they are gonna start coming after us home-schoolers. Starting with just a "registration" program to know who is out there. We will not be registering anybody regardless of any potential new law. Who's kids are they?

Lansing — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is expected to announce a plan during her State of the State speech Wednesday to provide pre-kindergarten education for all 4-year-olds in Michigan in an attempt to help families with rising costs.

The plan, which Whitmer has pushed since she first ran for governor in 2018, could become a reality with Democrats in full control of the state government for the first time in decades.

Building on the state's Great Start Readiness Program covering at-risk children of low-income families, the proposal would ensure all 110,000 of the state's 4-year-olds can attend prekindergarten. The plan would save families on average about $10,000 in childcare costs, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

“Every parent knows an early start is critical to their child’s future," Whitmer said in a statement to The Associated Press."
What's wrong with helping people that have young children?

Why do they need help?

Or how about this: Let's take a bunch of tax money and reward people who did not have children they could not afford so they can buy some nice things to enjoy?

Nope, that's simpleminded and mathematically defeats the purpose of doing either anyway.

Even people without kids will benefit from this. The entire society will benefit. That's why every smart country does it.

Y'know, I don't know the details of Michigan's home schooling laws, and I'm simply too lazy to look it up. But I'm quite confident that home schooled kids have to be registered, or the parents need to notify the state about home schooling their kids, because kids have been legally required to receive an education for decades.

Holy shit, I would have expected this more in MS or AL. Wow. Sadly, the OP is correct.

your conservative party should practice what you preach. Let's see you remove all social safety nets/welfare from red states (and i mean all) first before you tell people not to reproduce.

Well, our girl Big Gretch is tuning up for a run as VP or even POTUS in 2024. So she’s gonna pull out all the stops for the leftists. We‘ll see where the giveaways of taxpayer money will end with her. And the violations of the second

This is what happens when the Motherly types take over gubment. This is feminism run haywire.
Oh just listen to you, gone all alpha male 'n all.
Provide free or heavily subsidized child care and single mothers can get off welfare and go to work. If single motherhood isn't a sentence to twelve years of welfare poverty maybe there'll be way fewer abortions.
Does that sound like feminism run haywire or like a sound plan for using tax money to actually do some good?

Are you talking to me? Which party are you talking about?

Here is a clue: Personal accountability is not simply a conservative principle, it should apply to everyone.

If you go to eat don't order from the menu what you can't afford to pay for.
Same does with having kids.

Yep.

OK?
I disagree with the policy and so do many others believe it or not.

...and soak the taxpayers.

Free stuff usually is popular.

No doubt. Very bad.,

You would be incorrect. We have home schooled our 4 children, no state requirements.

Nope.

No. Sincerely opposed to these policies.
So quick to push your opinion but when it comes to explaining your position, there isn't much in the way of substance.

Why do they need help?

Because they have young children.

People who don't have children already have more spending money than those with children.

Until people stop having kids. Then the only solution is immigration, and we know how cultists feel about that
