And why?

The publication Defense Tech has an interesting article which shows that the White House, along with Republican bloggers, have given out way more information about this program than the New York Times ever did. Seems the Bush administration has been chattering about this for more than 5 years. So, who is going to call for charges of treason against President Bush? After all, whats good for the New York Times is also good for the president, isnt it?

Hmmm, I bet I hear crickets from the Bushneviks on this one.

Article is here.

Then why did the NYT and the rest of the media make such a big deal out of it?

Because they can and because the NYT is their competition.

Bush gave the obvious programs the time they were due, the public has a right to know what they are doing to protect them, to an degree. In none of these quotes will you find any in depth discussion on methods, or who is helping us with this. The Times gave it all up, names of programs, how, and who, all of which makes it difficult to get help from other countries, when we can't keep a secret.

This is pure nonsense, thanks again Dan;)

They should have been, but then again, Liberals can be hypocrites as well as Conservatives, and the problem is this: As long as whoever in power frames issues as either Liberal or Conservative, and not what is best for America, then this blatant hypocrisy will continue, no matter which party is in power.

Dana, I often disagree with stuff that you post, but this time, you have got it exactly right. Its all about power: those that have got it want to keep it. Those that are out of power, want to get it back.

I love how you always hurl insults right before inserting your foot in your mouth.

This thread already exists (NYT: Guilty of treason), and on post #31, the things not public until the NYT article are listed.

Thanks for all the insults though.

The administration's show of outrage is really quite amusing when this so called secret program is prominently displayed at the White House website.

Executive Order 13224

Public Announcement

Another measure of breathtaking hypocrisy in the attacks against the NYT, is that the Bush administration fed "leaks" to the so accommodating Judith Miller in support of their run up to war with Iraq.

We clearly have a double standard when it comes to leaking information to the press. Authorized by Bush = Good. Not Authorized by Bush = Criminal Offense.

Is it just me, or was there not a word about "SWIFT"?
