White House discussing asking foreign visitors for social media info and cell phone contacts - CNNPolitics.com

considering asking visitors for social media info and cell phone contacts

Miller also noted on Saturday that Trump administration officials are discussing the possibility of asking foreign visitors to disclose all websites and social media sites they visit, and to share the contacts in their cell phones. If the foreign visitor declines to share such information, he or she could be denied entry. Sources told CNN that the idea is just in the preliminary discussion level.

That's double-plus ungood.

It happened to the people held at the airports. They were also asked their opinion of Trump.

So what exactly does this have to do with refugees? Are they the only ones being targeted or are all foreign visitors being targeted? At first glance this looks like a 20th century solution to people with questionable web browsing history, at second glance this looks like a witch hunt to find those 3-5 Million people who voted illegally. Don't think for a second that President Trump truly cares about the first glance scenario. He only cares about the second glance made up one.

This also ignores the fact that we have the NSA.

(sigh) It's a discussion.

Sources told CNN that the idea is just in the preliminary discussion level.

The article goes on to say:

Already, Politico reported in December, the US government had quietly begun asking that foreign visitors provide their social media accounts voluntarily. The Obama administration had previously approved asking for much more information from people on terror watch lists, The Intercept reported in 2014.

I'm honestly getting tired of all this tempest in a teapot reporting.

Aren't you people tired of expressing outrage for anything and everything, regardless of the actual facts? I am certainly getting tired of seeing it in the Forum. :coffeepap:

Anyone who supposedly hates "big government" shouldn't like this move at all.

the fact that it is even in the discussion phase is cause for alarm, considering the last few days, and it sounds like it would be for all coming in, not just those on terrorist watch lists

Well, don't that change a lot of travel plans.

So, what about when Obama did it? Why did you say nothing then?
