Seems to be a bit of confusion as to how some of the people in the white house got the level of clearance they did. Kushner in particular. The normal folks who look at white house clearances said, um no, not qualified to that level of clearance. FBI, um no, not clear for that level of clearance. CIA, um no, not clear for that level clearance. So how are these folks getting the clearances they have?

Short answer? The President has the authority to both issue and revoke security clearances.

Typically a clearance is issued after a thorough Agency background check, usually through the Office of Personnel Management. President's typically stay within those guidelines but can make exceptions, such as Trump may have done with family members appointed to his personal staff.

Ok, I can go with that if it's legal. Might not like it which I don't because if the prez is compromized I wouldn't want him to have that power. Anyway, there's something to be said when the guy doing the overruling only overruled three other clearances in the past three years. That's rather strange in itself. Kinda' gives off a weird smell.

Because he can doesn’t mean that he should. Trump has no experience with and likely very little understanding of processes/requirements involved in granting clearances. His granting top level security clearances sans proper investigation is akin to giving a seven your old the keys to your car.

Wrong, there have been over thirty such clearances given. The FBI sent info to the people who make such decisions in the White House and two levels of decision makers said no way, but the White House brought in a new department head who over ruled the two and gave security clearances to over 30 people who should not have them including Kushner. IN fact this same department head decided to send Kushner's application for the security level a step higher than top secret to the CIA who has the last decision on this level and they said no way. They even asked how Kushner got a Top Secret clearance. This is typical of Trump, do not do the questionable stuff yourself, get someone else to do it so it can not come back on you. SO we have over 30 people in our government handling top Secret info that could be influenced by out side governments to give it up because of the negative info found on them by the FBI.
