I honestly don't think Trump knows one bit about this guy. Just what he sees of him from Fox News, and it's not like they're gonna report this.

Only Trump knows but given his past behavior, I suspect Trump is lying and picked Whitaker because he thinks Whitaker will spy on Mueller and, even better for Trump, undercut the Russian investigation as Whitaker has stated should be done in the past.
