Several legal advocacy groups on Monday filed a whistleblower complaint on behalf of a nurse at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center documenting “jarring medical neglect” within the facility, including a refusal to test detainees for the novel coronavirus and an exorbitant rate of hysterectomies being performed on immigrant women. The nurse, Dawn Wooten, was employed at the Irwin County Detention Center (ICDC) in Georgia, which is operated by LaSalle Corrections, a private prison company. . . .Multiple women came forward to tell Project South about what they perceived to be the inordinate rate at which women in ICDC were subjected to hysterectomies – a surgical operation in which all or part of the uterus is removed. Additionally, many of the immigrant women who underwent the procedure were reportedly “confused” when asked to explain why they had the surgery, with one detainee likening their treatment to prisoners in concentration camps.
.

.

According to Wooten, ICDC consistently used a particular gynecologist – outside the facility – who almost always opted to remove all or part of the uterus of his female detainee patients. Everybody he sees has a hysterectomy—just about everybody,” Wooten said, adding that, “everybody’s uterus cannot be that bad.” . . .Wooten also confirmed that many of the detained women have told her that they didn’t understand why they were being forced to have the procedure, explaining that some of the nurses obtained their consent “by simply googling Spanish.

Well, isn't that fantastically ****ed up? I wonder whether how many records, if/once subpeonaed, will be 'inadvertently lost'.

How does this even work? Some sick doctor? Kick-backs on part of the fees for the private prison? I suppose malevolence is a reasonable motive, but I've only heard about this at this one facility, not an ICE-wide thing. It does rather sound like eugenics via policy, at least for that location. Perhaps there are others?

Stage 2 of a genocide. What a shock.

This seems strangely like a racist/eugenics attempt to bring back Buck v. Bell as a way of attacking immigrants and not allowing them to have children, that as overturned in Skinner.

My God I have never been so embarrassed for and ashamed of our Country.

That said, no less a genocide specialist than Hitler himself and his Nazi's studied the American Race Caste characteristics before they embarked on their nonsense.

In before "well if they didn't come here illegally they wouldn't get what's coming to them".

We are setting ourselves up for some monster law suits coming down the pike. We already were setting ourselves up with the damage done to children torn from the parents. This one is if anything uglier from a tort perspective.

Sounds like some bull****.

Sounds like some bull****.

Are you saying that this isn't happening to immigrant women or are you saying that you disagree with it happening?

ICE facilities have operating rooms?

Maybe there have been some surgeries done, but this notion that illegal immigrants are, basically, retarded or that they have the mentality of small children who are completely unaware of what’s going on is ridiculous.

ICE facilities have operating rooms?

It’s a little known fact that Jigsaw in the Saw movies was actually patterned after ICE agents.

Look like more anonymous source bull**** to me.
then these clowns have the nerve to call other people cultists.

Omg. This is disgusting and a crime. This is a horrible thing to do to a young woman. Christians need to stop making excuses for this crap. They say they oppose eugenics. They say they oppose politics of the Nazis. Stand the hell up and fight for the human rights and dignity of these people asking for refuge.

That's what happens when an employee becomes a liability but you can't terminate his/her employment because of the skin pigmentation.

Medical "professional" has sickle cell anemia - doctor warned her that exposure to the coronavirus could be deadly - and expects an illegal alien facility to pander to her needs.
Medical "professional" also has a kid at home with asthma.
Medical "professional" becomes a pain in the ass and gets demoted.

Medical "professional" turns into "whistleblower" on Covid, hysterectomy, racism, unpaid leave ...

And finally, whistleblower needs money: "With medical bills, sick family members, children to feed, rent to pay, and car payments to make, the reduction in her work hours was a serious blow. As her own health deteriorated and she suffered from consistent stress, Wooten relied on her eldest son to help pay off the car."

Nurse at ICE Detention Center Turns Covid-19 Whistleblower

Another government agency neglecting the basic responsibilities. Housing, VA, ICE, IRA, etc, etc, etc. So what is new? Do you suggest we double all government agency budgets to get adequate results?

Sounds like some bull****.

What if it’s not? Instead of just pushing your head into the sand, I would say you have a responsibility to god and everything you stand for to ensure the rights of these people are respected. You voted to put them in these camps. You voted for Trump knowing full well his rhetoric. If you stick your head in the sand, and this becomes exposed in the next few years, shame on you and everything you have preached on this forum.

When you vote for a person like Trump, you better not neglect looking out for the dignity and rights of others.

If nothing else, give detainees a little more credit for not being idiots (despite the lapse of judgment in coming here illegally). I guarantee that, if medical procedures were actually done, consent for the procedure has been documented up the ying yang.

Maybe there have been some surgeries done, but this notion that illegal immigrants are, basically, retarded or that they have the mentality of small children who are completely unaware of what’s going on is ridiculous.

These aren’t some surgeries. These are hysterectomies. It’s not a minor surgery performed in women for no reason. It’s usually preformed when there are serious issues (cancer, prolapse, massive tumors, etc) and it’s hard to believe that “mass hysterectomies” are needed in a population group of average women for any reason. It’s statistically rare. It doesn’t make sense. Even with tumors and other issues, a woman can go years before even getting the surgery. It’s a very expensive surgery, very serious, and very painful.

You should actually be concerned about this instead of downplaying everything.

It is hard to believe "mass hysterectomies" took place.

Nobody ever said or even hinted that they were retarded. This was done without their consent as a way tio further an attack on their race or their being poor immigrants by prohibiting them from reproducing. It's all a part of racism and xenophobia.

California bans coerced sterilization of female inmates | Reveal

If nothing else, give detainees a little more credit for not being idiots (despite the lapse of judgment in coming here illegally). I guarantee that, if medical procedures were actually done, consent for the procedure has been documented up the ying yang.

There is a history of obtaining coerced consent from women in forced sterilization programs. Women are often pressured to sign consent papers in order to gain legitimate medical care or other access. Again, you should not be making excuses for sterilization programs. If a healthy young woman is pressured to sign paperwork subjecting her to a medically unnecessary hysterectomy, her rights have been violated. If the government even has a program of obtaining signatures, you should be offended. Trust me, no woman would undergo a hysterectomy just because she feels like it. Any sterilization program is wrong, and these people have no lawyers or rights.

But not hard to believe mass hysteria is taking place.

I am not hysterical. I am offended by your lack of concern and excuse making even if it did happen.
